Right Wing Organization CRAP Says The Movie "The Chosen" Is Socialist Garbage

The Conservatives Reinstating American Purity movement, known as CRAP , is protesting the popularity of the tv series The Chosen and claiming that the Bible and Christianity are too socialist adjacent.

"I hate to say it, but early Christianity was communist" says Henry (Shorty) Brewster, the spokesman for CRAP.  "And the movie and tv series The Chosen is damaging the minds of our youth with its pleas for acceptance and kindness and the need for societal upheaval. And in The Chosen Jesus is portrayed by an actor that doesnt look entirely European, which is not acceptable either"  Brewster said.

He noted the gospel story of the loaves and fishes - " Jesus fed thousands of able bodied people who should have been out working instead of lounging around at a leftist rally.  He literally gave this anti-American rabble a free lunch. Well there is no such thing as a free lunch. And if CRAP has its way there never will be. " He went on to criticize the "socialist" filmmakers of The Chosen as Hollywood elitists out to confuse the "real Americans" who believe that Jesus was actually a spokesman for unfettered capitalism.

"How can CRAP succeed if our popular culture, through film, keeps filling the heads of our people, especially young people with lies saying society exists to help one another?"  Brewster concluded.

I want you to look at how the early church engaged with each other for a moment. Based on that, I will ask you, “Does this resemble socialism or capitalism?” Consider these two passages from the book of Acts.

All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved. ( Acts 2:44-47 )

All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of their possessions was their own, but they shared everything they had. With great power the apostles continued to testify to the  resurrection  of the Lord Jesus. And God’s grace was so powerfully at work in them all that there were no needy persons among them. For from time to time those who owned land or houses sold them, brought the money from the sales and put it at the apostles’ feet, and it was distributed to anyone who had need. ( Acts 4:32-35 )

Was Jesus a Socialist by Modern Standards?

Monarchism is a political system;  capitalism and socialism are economic systems.

I read this book many years ago (I have not seen the movie), but I thought it was a great book and that Chaim Potok had captured the fact that friendship can transcend differences in religious belief, that nothing is forever and that we are all capable of change and better understanding of others' beliefs and points of view.

I also took from the book that no one point of view on a subject is one hundred percent without flaw and that be embracing others and the views of others (at least for discussion and education) that we can all grow.

I did not and do not think of it as any kind of political statement

Jesus would be mad as hell about billionaire pastors flying private jets (plural) and driving Roll Royces and Ferraris (plural). He would condemn the organized religions and individual churches who are now hoarding unimaginable wealth (Trillions) in real estate and on Wall Street. Christ required those who followed him to abandon their worldly endeavors and possessions and to submit utterly. And, this is exactly why every evangelist since Saul / Paul has countermanded Christ regarding economics. Jesus, were he to come back, would Tax The Churches. As King Of Kings all of the wealth collected over these last two thousand years in His Name, is by His birthright His current legacy to the poor, the naked, the hungry, the lonely and imprisoned, the sick and the homeless!

Billionaire pastors don’t believe that god is real.  They may believe Satan is real, and that he intentionally misrepresents itself as God/Jesus though.  They may be thinking that when they die Satan will be so impressed with their identical missions that he will reserve a special place for them in the afterlife.
