Supreme Court allows Trump to terminate 16,000 probationary federal workers

The Supreme Court on Tuesday said the Trump administration can move forward with the termination of 16,000 probationary federal workers across six agencies and departments, rescinding a lower court order that they be reinstated as litigation challenging the layoffs continues.

In a brief, unsigned order, the court said the nine labor unions and nonprofit groups that had challenged the firings lacked standing in the matter. The groups' "allegations [of harm] are presently insufficient to support the organizations' standing," the order read.

Justices Sonia Sotomayor and Ketanji Brown Jackson indicated that they would have denied Trump's request.

A federal judge last month  ordered the administration  to reinstate the affected employees at the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Department of Agriculture, the Department of Defense, the Department of Energy, the Department of Interior and the Department of Treasury.

The Trump administration appealed to the Supreme Court for an emergency stay of the judge's order, arguing the plaintiffs lacked standing and had "hijacked the employment relationship between the federal government and its workforce."

The unions had asked the Supreme Court to preserve the district court judge's order that those workers be reinstated because of the imminent harm that would come from termination.

"Because probationary employees include not only those new to the government but also those recently promoted, agencies lost experienced individuals and directors of programs and were left with arbitrary and unexpected gaps in critical functions," they wrote in their brief. "The reverberations throughout agencies and impacts on services were dramatic and immediate."

On Tuesday, the coalition of unions called the Supreme Court order "deeply disappointing" but vowed to continue fighting the terminations.

"Despite this setback, our coalition remains unwavering in fighting for these workers who were wronged by the administration, and in protecting the freedoms of the American people. This battle is far from over," the coalition said in a statement.

Yes, the appeals are coming in quickly now. Thank God these issues have been settled within a few months. It turns out that the President does have power over the Executive branch.

In the mean time the dems have the Supreme Court bogged down with things that should never be brought to them.

MAGA and Other groups has no authority to tell the "Supremes" what is in their scope for executing opinions on or sending back for review and if need be additional correction.

I know what you mean. It shouldn't be this way, but historians will point to it as the lawfare that it was.

The groups will acquire the standing needed and resume the trek back to the high court.  Temporary setbacks to wrongs is better than harms that are left to fester like pus-filled wounds in the hearts and minds of the citizenry. Yes, elections are coming. . .and if there is no legal recourse then the ballot box remains.

Common sense? Really? Is that why every day is now a black day on Wall Street? Is that why inflation and unemployment are skyrocketing? Is that why we are losing our allies and gaining new enemies? There will be no pony. This is pure horse shit!

Trump isn't imposing tariffs on other countries. We pay them!

American businesses are not winning. America is not winning.

The only winners of trade wars are rank criminal opportunists!

Vance's political career is kaput. He is mere historical footnote.

Where was this urgency when voters needed to know the circumstances around Trumps parts in the Januarty 6th insurrection attempt ?

How about him admitting to stealing Top Secret Documents and showing them to whomever, cause that sure would of been helpful for some people to know about this POS's prepotency to be a perpetrator that belonged in a penitentiary, not back in the White Power House of Trump Cards that is folding from the dumb tards some dumb tard did install in his need medication cabinet of misfit toys and mandate Elon boyz ta real men, they'll never be you see, but no, of course you don't, or is it won't? cause no one wishes to be so wrong and for so long as the mental midget maniacal miscreant of mayhem, attempts to destroy a perfectly awesome economy for no reason, as all are punisdhed except Russia and the one who Putin him in office the first time, for what other orange slime that has committed so many crimes yet slithers and sleazes out of them so many times can any recall, cause I'd say doubtful...

You don't do anybody a favor by hiring people via the government.  The private sector will find an effective use for them.

Oh stop with the myth that government workers are weak and ineffective. . . politicians yes they are weak and ineffective when they are dishonest and desperate to 'please' persistently unpleasant and divisive constituents, but then they are replaceable by constitutional mandates periods of 'adjustment.' Thus, it should cross everyone minds that hired employees of the government (which gives us a great deal of products, goods, and services the private sector can't or won't invest capital in) are actually plagued by elected politicians whose jobs it is to every two, four, and six years terms come in and 'jack' up progress or restart progress where at the point of its backtracking.

Then fire our teachers, police, firefighters and service members.

Fire the farm finance and soil conservation agents. Fire the folks who work at Social Security and Medicare and Medicaid and the VA. Fire all our Entomologists, Agronomists and Livestock Agents. Fire the food inspectors and work safety agents. Who really needs airport security and air traffic controllers? Hell, close our national parks and even Arlington Cemetery. Shut down trash departments and animal control. The roads will fix themselves and who needs sewers, or fresh water? So let's fire all thise government workers! Yeah Boy!  After all, they don't do anything and we don't need them!

How detached from reality are MAGA? Do MAGAs hate them all?

Fine show up to work, tell us what you did last week.  Prove that you deserve your job, it's not that hard.

They don't have to prove a damn thing to some hard-cases. It would not be sufficient anymore now than before. The mere fact that MAGAs think they are a threat enough to call government workers, "deep state," signifies there is work manifesting.

Indeed, as a nation we need a federal government that can be IMPARTIAL to all the citizens of this country and not just PETTY as some (red) states surely are when they internally try to positively manipulate freedoms for select citizens (of the liking of the majority) while negatively ridiculing and even taunting other citizens into deep and 'everlasting' frustrations!

Well,  as a starter: tell us why MAGA needs to know if our federal government secret service agency shows up for work, what it did last week, and that the individuals deserve their jobs.(It's not that hard for "you" so go ahead.)
