The White House removed a portrait of former President Barack Obama from a prominent spot and replaced it with artwork of President Donald Trump surviving last summer's shooting attempt in Pennsylvania.
Just after 3 p.m. ET Friday, the verified White House X page posted a short clip of a photo of Trump bleeding from the ear and raising his fist in the air.
The image appeared to be a painting and was identical to one that went viral last July after Trump was grazed in the ear by a bullet fired by 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks .
The account posted the image and commented, "Some new artwork at the White House."

A number of reporters and commentators were quick to note the image had replaced an official White House portrait of the country's 44th president:

The image of Obama that was replaced on Friday was unveiled in September 2022, NPR reported:
President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama headed to the White House Wednesday for the unveiling of the couple's official portraits.
It marked the first time in 10 years that a sitting president has invited former leadership back for a revealing of the portraits — a tradition that stalled when an unveiling did not take place during the Trump years.
Tapped for the assignment of a lifetime were artists Robert McCurdy, for the president, and Sharon Sprung, for the first lady.
Obama said at the time his portrait was unveiled, "When future generations walk these halls and look up at these portraits, I hope they get a better honest sense of who Michelle and I were. And I hope they leave with a deeper understanding that if we could make it here, maybe they can, too. They can do remarkable things, too."
