Comedian and Oscar-winning Robin Williams wasfound dead of a suspected suicide Monday in Marin County, Calif. He was 63.
He has been battling severe depression of late. This is a tragic and sudden loss, his publicist Mara Buxbaum told the Sun-Times Bill Zwecker. The family respectfully asks for their privacy as they grieve during this very difficult time.
Here is the statement from the Marin County Sherrifs Department:
On August 11, 2014, at approximately 11:55 am, Marin County Communications
received a 9-1-1 telephone call reporting a male adult had been located unconscious
and not breathing inside his residence in unincorporated Tiburon, CA. The Sheriffs
Office, as well as the Tiburon Fire Department and Southern Marin Fire Protection
District were dispatched to the incident with emergency personnel arriving on scene at
12:00 pm. The male subject, pronounced deceased at 12:02 pm has been identified as
Robin McLaurin Williams, a 63 year old resident of unincorporated Tiburon, CA.
An investigation into the cause, manner, and circumstances of the death is currently
underway by the Investigations and Coroner Divisions of the Sheriffs Office.
Preliminary information developed during the investigation indicates Mr. Williams was
last seen alive at his residence, where he resides with his wife, at approximately 10:00
pm on August 10, 2014. Mr. Williams was located this morning shortly before the 9-1-1
call was placed to Marin County Communications. At this time, the Sheriffs Office
Coroner Division suspects the death to be a suicide due to asphyxia, but a
comprehensive investigation must be completed before a final determination is made.
A forensic examination is currently scheduled for August 12, 2014 with subsequent
toxicology testing to be conducted.
I could not be more stunned by the loss of Robin Williams, mensch, great talent, acting partner, genuine soul, tweeted fellow comedian Steve Martin, his co-star in a 1988 Broadway revival of Waiting for Godot.
From his breakthrough in the late 1970s as the alien in the hit TV show Mork and Mindy, through his standup act and such films as Good Morning, Vietnam, the short, barrel-chested Williams ranted and shouted as if just sprung from solitary confinement. Loud, fast, manic, he parodied everyone from John Wayne to Keith Richards, impersonating a Russian immigrant as easily as a pack of Nazi attack dogs.
He was a riot in drag in Mrs. Doubtfire, or as a cartoon genie in Aladdin. He won his Academy Award in a rare, but equally intense dramatic role, as a teacher in the 1997 film Good Will Hunting.
He also played for tears in Awakenings, Dead Poets Society and What Dreams May Come, something that led New York Times critic Stephen Holden to once say he dreaded seeing the actors Humpty Dumpty grin and crinkly moist eyes.
His other film credits included Robert Altmans Popeye (a box office bomb), Paul Mazurskys Moscow on the Hudson, Steven Spielbergs Hook and Woody Allens Deconstructing Harry.
Restin peace Robin, you will be missed by many. Thank you for the many laughs you gave us.
What a terrible loss.
He was one of the best comedians an actors around.
??
He was such a talented artist.
What a great talent, both comic and drama.
Good Will Hunting, Good Morning Vietnam, Dead Poet's Society, Mrs. Doubtfire...On and on.
RIP Robin.
A national treasure That's for sure.
Could very well be...thanks..
What a loss to the entertainment world. It seems that a lot of the people who make us laugh are also those who are the saddest inside.
List of Celebrities who have voiced public support for Israel !
Robin Williams was on that list .
I will miss him, for sure. He was a wonderful man, in so many ways. He was so over-the-top, in a good way, and had a natural way of knowing what made people laugh. And yet, he could also make us cry, and understand things in a way we had not understood before.
My prayers are with his family and friends. Rest in peace, Mr. Williams.
So?
I just loooove to tweak the Flame .
I saw that too and yesterday when the news broke those words came back to me. Hope wherever he is he has found the peace he's been longing for
