Is this stealth bike the future of policing? SILENT electric motorcycles could be used to sneak up on criminals
- California-based Zero Motorcycles have designed an electric bike for police
- Motorcycle is silent so it can be used to creep up on criminals undetected
- The LAPD is evaluating the vehicle for use by its officers on the city streets
- Bike boasts a top speed of 98 mph and has a range of more than 150 miles
- A military version has also been released that has infrared lights and an 'override' switch to escape from enemy gun fire
A silent electric bike is to be used by police forces as a means to approach criminals undetected.
Zero Motorcycles in northern California have designed their a motorcycle that law enforcement officials can use to get the upper hand on criminals.
And with a top speed of up to 98 miles (158 km) per hour, the police of tomorrow can chase criminals down as well if the stealth approach fails.
This is a good beginning to reducing the cost of our police services.
The police have been using bicycles for years, these will give them a quicker response time.
Did anyone do an analysis of the payback time cf to a gasoline powered bike ?
Really cool bike. I love the fact that it's electric and fast. It should be a great addition to the force.
Petey,
It is actually cheaper than most bikes. For instance the Calfornia DHP's bikes are$28,300. That alone makes this a win/win
I don't think one can use such a bike as a fair comparison . Those large bikes have a lot more speed and power than these little scooters .
Isn't that a cool bike? Harley is making one, too.
I don't think that they have to go faster than 98 miles per hour though. And that is no scooter.
Based on what ?
The electric Harley is designed to make noise . It's a cool noise but it is still noise .
The silence was a factor in going to the Zero.
The Harley has a noise making thing added. It could be silent but they decided to make it sound all science fiction like. I think they make the noise with a couple playing cards clothes pinned so it makes a noise on the spokes.
