I must apologize for being MIA for so long. I truly miss talking to all of you. I feel like I dont have much time to do anything I want to do anymore. For some updates: I have continued maintaining a 3.95 GPA and have just under a year of school to go before I graduate with a Bachelors in Business Administration Operations Management. The new job is not great, but it could be worse (Ill explain that situation in a moment). Family is still fantastically dysfunctional, although, my ex is going through a divorce with #2, which makes the rest of us extremely happy.
As far as work is concerned, I am disappointed thus far. I had high hopes that a small LLC in the situation they were placed into, would show some sort of promise. I thought that with the few staff on-hand, management might be open to suggestions regarding intelligent business ideas. I thought that with the open-mindedness and approachable Australian owners, our voices might just be noticed. So far, I have been wrong in my hopes and thoughts. Just like big conglomerates, individual employee safety is of no real concern. If OSHA walked in the door of that facility, the company would be shut down and the Australian sister-company would likely just find some other small business to invest in to get their products completed. True quality is of no concern. Just get the product out the door and make it appear high quality. Nearly all of the 25 (22 of the 25) are past due for our 90-day reviews, some more overdue than others, but most within a week of each other. There are no processes in place. There are no instruction manuals to help new employees learn how to properly disassemble or reassemble the product. It is absolutely an ad-hoc situation and I just have a terrible feeling that it wont last very long. Ad-hoc companies usually dont. I used to see potential for growth and opportunity; now I simply see that I need to continue my search.
I am still angry that I did not get the position with US Steel/Great Lakes Division. That position is PERFECT for me. It hones in on all of my skills with people, computers, analytics, and mechanical! It also paid SO much better with WAY better benefits.
Michigan still sucks for a decent job at a decent wage. Companies want massive degrees or certifications for menial jobs at menial wages. Several trucking companies are requesting that someone has a CDL-A with HAZMAT qualifications and then go on to say that the hourly wage is $13.50-$15/hour! That is asinine! I made $12/hour at AutoZone as a parts manager, nearly 15 years ago! And who would think that a parts sales associate making $8/hour would need ASE certifications? Why would someone need ASE certs to sell oil filters? Detroit filed bankruptcy. Flint is about to file bankruptcy. What major city will be next to file bankruptcy, Lansing?
Ugh, I am sorry for the bitch-fest. However, that is my life in a nutshell right now. I am crossing my fingers for something better really soon! Ill try to stop in from time to time and say hi.
Sincerely,
Ms. Aubrey aka Ahyoka
Well, it's very good to see you!
I'm so sorry things have not worked out as you had hoped with your job-- that is so miserable! But, as soon as you can finish school, I do think that more doors will be open for you!
Hang on, and know that you are in my thoughts and prayers!
Thank you my dear.
I've been wondering where you are. Good news on the GPA, very good. I am amazed that the positions you mention are only offering slightly above minimum wage salary. I guess that means there are a lot of people out of work and something is better than nothing. Hang in there.
Yes. Unemployment in MI remains high even though reports say otherwise. The reports simply show those that are claiming and still qualify for that unemployment check, not the actual amount of people unemployed. MI is jerking people around when it comes to giving the people their checks too. My husband only received half of what he was owed while laid off. The state is doing whatever they can to not pay, making excuses and making people jump through hoops to get anywhere.
Sure... Making cost of living rise and screw us all anyhow.
Hi Ms. A,
Glad to see you and knowing that you are OK. Sorry to hear about your work situation, but so happy to hear that you are doing well at school ( not that I had any doubt, LOL).
Try to drop by more often.
