Fried Green Tomatoes-- EASY
If you've never had fried green tomatoes, you probably don't realize how wonderful they are! They have a sort of sour pickle taste, and are a great addition to many "southern" dishes!
Green Tomatoes, firm
1/2 cup cornmeal
1/2 cup flour, (I use either all-purpose, or regular flour, it doesn't matter)
dash of milk
hot corn oil, about 1/2 cup
salt and pepper
Wash your tomatoes well, and slice them into 3/8" thickness. Beat egg and milk together, and set aside. Mix flour and cornmeal until well blended. Add salt and pepper to taste. Heat corn oil in an iron skillet, or a regular skillet if you don't have one. One at a time, dip sliced tomato in the egg/milk mix, and dip into the corn meal/flour mix to cover each. Place each slice into the hot oil, and fry until golden brown. Drain tomatoes on a paper towel, and eat immediately. You can always make more, later, if you have more green tomatoes! I usually fix two tomatoes per two people.
