Pelosi demands Trump's removal from office in wake of Capitol attack
Pelosi said she is "calling on the vice president to remove this president by immediately invoking the 25th Amendment."

Of course Nancy Pelosi calls for someone else to remove Trump.  Same with Chuck Schumer.  Democrats have been demanding Trump be removed from office for four years.  Democrats began floating the 25th amendment as soon as it became clear that Hillary Clinton would not prevail as had been planned.  Congress delegates everything simply because Congress does nothing.

Donald Trump has engaged in the same type of politics as Andrew Jackson.  Trump has channeled James Henry Lane of Kansas or Samuel Houston of Texas.  What we are seeing is frontier politics that is uniquely American.

The exceptionally smart stupid people on both coasts rant about European Nazism, fascism, socialism, and communism.  Apparently those educated at Harvard, Yale, Stanford, and the other elite bastions of European liberalism haven't been taught anything about American history.  Yes, the United States was established by scholarly politicians.  But America was forged on the frontier.  The two are not the same and are not interchangeable.

We've seen indolent politicians, the jaundiced press, and the exceptionally well educated ignorant claim they are defending the United States.  But that's not the same as defending America.  In fact, it's not possible to defend America by citing European history.

That's why the Capitol building was stormed.  The people that stormed the Capitol are fighting for America.  But the ill-informed anti-American elite cannot understand what that means.  Defending the United States accomplishes nothing if America is thrown under the bus.

S E E D E D   C O N T E N T

Washington — House Speaker Nancy Pelosi joined a growing list of lawmakers demanding Vice President Mike Pence begin proceedings to remove President Trump from office under the 25th Amendment, saying the House could initiate impeachment proceedings against the president if Pence fails to act in the wake of the attack on the Capitol.

"In calling for this seditious act, the president has committed an unspeakable assault on our nation, and our people," Pelosi said at a press conference at the Capitol Thursday. "I join the Senate Democratic leader in calling on the vice president to remove this president by immediately invoking the 25th Amendment. If the vice president and Cabinet do not act, the Congress may be prepared to move forward with impeachment."

Pelosi, who is third in line for the presidency, endorsed the move to remove Mr. Trump from office one day after a pro-Trump mob stormed the Capitol and delayed the counting of Electoral College votes. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and other Democratic lawmakers called on the president to be removed earlier Thursday.

The 25th Amendment gives the vice president and a majority of the Cabinet the power to remove a president from office if they determine he is "unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office."

"He has clearly indicated that over and over again," Pelosi said. "And by inciting sedition as he did yesterday, he must clearly be removed from office.

The speaker added that "the best route, the most immediate route, would be the vice president to recognize the danger of a Donald Trump presidency and take this action."

"I don't think it will take long to get an answer from the vice president," Pelosi said. "It would be yes, or it would be no."

Pelosi also said she was demanding the resignation of the U.S. Capitol Police over the failure to prevent rioters from breaching the Capitol building.

"There was a failure of leadership at the top of the Capitol police and I think Mr. Sund, he hasn't even called us since this happened," she said, referring to Capitol Police Chief Steven Sund. "So I had been made aware that I would be saying that we're calling for his resignation."

One person was shot and killed by police while three others died of "medical emergencies" during the assault on the Capitol, police said. Rioters managed to break into the Senate chamber and nearly breached the House floor in a standoff with armed guards inside the chamber.

Lawmakers were evacuated from their chambers and remained in a secure location for five hours before the Capitol was secured. They returned to complete the electoral count and affirmed President-elect Joe Biden's victory in the presidential race early Thursday morning.

What we are witnessing is the same type of frontier politics that created America; not the United States.  Bunker Hill and Valley Forge are important in the history of the United States.  But Boonesborough, KY, and San Antonio, TX, and Lawrence, KS, are important in the history of America.

If we lose America then protecting the United States doesn't really amount to much.

As I posted elsewhere, she is sowing more animosity with this bullshit. Instead of telling everyone to calm down and just wait 12 more days, she had to jump on this OR, if this isn't done, they will move for impeachment. It's crazy. They have to have their "we got him this time" manure wagon. Twelve more days and he's gone anyway. This is a ridiculous exhibition of what is yet to come with a full dem legislative and executive branch. Right now they are drunk with power and this displays it perfectly. Nothing but vendetta quenching and a warning to all those "outsiders' in the future even remotely like Trump to not tread on the status quo ever again.

And the sad thing is, they never let up. Four years of this. The "system" has taken him out. Let it be so and quit being a fucking hypocrite. Unify the country my ass.

The president is a citizen of the US. As such, he is bound by the laws and the constitution just like every other citizen. He should be held accountable NOW for his actions over the past years that have lead to the violence wednesday. This isn't a game. This is real and the President can no longer be handled with kid gloves, his lies treated as just "him" "he says that but you know...." Words have consequences and his words, his knowing lies, led directly to the mob violence. This must be addressed promptly. To not address the lies and the liar directly continues to exacerbate the problem and give the flames that he has ignited fuel and oxygen. Put the fire out, don't just turn your back, "Oh, he just says that...."

He can say what's on his mind. How it is interpreted by a bunch of morons with no idea of right and wrong and the way to get things done is NOT his problem. Yep. He fired them up at the "rally" just like he has at EVERY rally. Where they got the idea to storm the capitol building was a pipe dream for a minority of the people there. One gentleman from here in Charlotte was at the rally and left it early to head to the capitol. He said that when he got there, the ne'er do wells were already set up and roaring to go. It wasn't all of the people after the rally. There was already a plan.............and a misguided one at that.

You are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem.

Democrats only know the politics of division.  Joe Biden has even played the race card to gin up racial resentments.

If the people that stormed the Capitol wanted to pull down all the statues and burned the building, they could have.  They could have destroyed the Capitol but they didn't.  They could have ransacked private businesses but they didn't.  They could have menaced residential areas but they didn't.

Are those the laws that are selectively enforced?

The problem with that narrative is that citizens are expected to obey the law while non-citizens are given a bye.  Citizenship in the United States has become an encumbrance.  The political elite devote more of their effort toward accommodating non-citizens than addressing the concerns of citizens.

You are most welcome.  I find it good to begin a discussion on a point of agreement.

However, you are just wrong with your equivocation. He is not just anybody lying to the crowds of supporters, he is the president and knows that his words, his lies, bear meaning. Granted, he said the word "peacefully"...once. But ever since the election his constant drumbeat of "The election was stolen from me and the American people", roused the rabble. Even before the election, since prior to 2016, his discounting the people who's job it is to bring us the factual information as "fake news" while telling the people that provably false information was factual fed this beast, these "Ne'er do wells" till it all culminated on wednesday in the desecration of Our Capitol.

A direct line can and must be drawn between his exhortations to his supporters and the mob action that occurred.

I agree as do those that I work with that are here on work visas and have applied for citizenship and denounced their citizenship of their country of origin.

Did you know that it takes a decade [or more] to become a US citizen? Until they become a US citizen, they have to return to their country of origin in many instances, once a year to renew their work visas... and that's because THEIR country requires it, not ours.

For those that CAN have dual citizenship, usually do, but not all countries will allow dual citizenship; India is one of them. One of my coworkers had to travel to India so he could file the paperwork for he and his family to denounce their citizenship before they can even apply here for citizenship.

It's all quite complicated; therefore, while I understand why people come here legally, but usually STAY here illegally, the US could very well make the process of citizenship shorter in time; especially with modern technology.

There are senior citizens that can’t even pay for prescriptions.

My grandmother was one of them and she ultimately died because she couldn't take her meds as prescribed.

We need to take care of our citizens first.

You mean... be more like The Netherlands, Finland, Sweden, Switzerland, Iceland, Greenland.... you get the point. There are MANY countries that ensure their citizens receive benefits [including jobs] over non-citizens. They also don't play around with immigration; they deport very shortly following visa expiration.

What makes one person more deserving of health care than another?

What makes anyone more deserving to profit from sickness, injury, and death?  We've seen throughout the pandemic that the ultimate problem has been lack of money.  Congress throws boatloads of public money at healthcare yet we keep hearing about people being denied healthcare.

Obamacare was about throwing more money at healthcare without any consideration for how all the money is the root cause of people being denied healthcare.

What makes one person more deserving of health care than another is how much money is on the table.  Government has been underwriting delivery of healthcare for people in the country illegally.  And I, for one, cannot compete with the government.

Abolition was forged in the fiery furnace of Bleeding Kansas.  Surely you've heard of John Brown from Kansas Territory?

Stephen Arnold Douglas was the centrist compromiser.  The centrists weren't abolitionists.  The centrists were more concerned about splitting the party and losing control of Congress.

The people who stormed the Capitol building are in distress because black and brown and red and yellow people are beginning to achieve full equality in America.  Trump's movement has ALWAYS been centered on grievance. Mostly grievance based on the perception that the "real" Americans aka whites were being pushed into the background by the ethnic hordes. I saw interviews with people at the rally , er, riot, that said they were there to take back their country. Their country. Why is America the country of rural folk when 80% of the population lives in metropolitan areas? We dont have a physical "frontier" anymore. If you want to pretend you are Daniel Boone find a deserted island or primeval forest somewhere and have at it.

So a lot of people want President Trump out of office immediately,  and do not want to wait until Jan  20th.  Ok, so lets look at the options.

1)  The 25th Amendment.

Pence is said to oppose invoking the 25th Amendment. And to me for good cause. The purpose of the 25th is to remove a president who is unable to do his job, such as sick or disabled. Obviously Trump is able to do his job, he has just decided since the election that he didn't want to. And I read that when the 25th is invoked, the President can appeal which gains him like 8 or 9 days to prepare. So that would only leave a few days for any action.

2)  Impeachment

The purpose of Impeachment is to remove the President (and other civil officers of the United States) on a determination that such officers have engaged in treason, bribery or other high crimes and misdemeanors.

Can the House pass an impeachment of President Trump in the remaining days left?  And I don't mean just passing articles of impeachment, but actually having a case to take to the Senate? And as Mitch McConnell is still the majority leader and runs the Senate, would he even take up a trial or just spin it along? Could a trial be delayed long enough to pass Jan 20th? There's also been some talk about letting the impeachment process run into the next Senate. As the purpose of impeachment is to remove the sitting president, can you even have an impeachment trial once the president has stepped down?

3)  Perhaps a better solution

I think a deal needs to be made here. I agree with many that after Wednesday President Trump has lost all right to sit in the office any more. Problem is, in my mind, he has burned so many people that he has little leverage at this point.  I read that President Trump is going to spend the weekend up at Camp David. I think that leadership from both sides in Congress and VP Pence should come together to come up with a deal, where President Trump can pardon his children, resign and then President Pence can issue a pardon for Trump.  (like Ford did with Nixon).  This is about the only way I can see President Trump out of office before Jan 20th.

If Trump is impeached and found guilty he can never hold public office again.

That may be what it's all about.

So why would lawmakers bother with impeachment? One answer is that removal is not the only sanction available if Trump is convicted: The Constitution also permits the Senate to  permanently disqualify  Trump from holding “any office of honor, trust or profit under the United States.”

So maybe make the deal that Trump can issue pardons for his children, resigns and agrees to never run for public office again,  and President Pence in his first act can pardon Trump (ala Ford for Nixon) and Congress can agree to not pursue investigations and criminal charges at the federal level. I believe this is the fastest way to get him out of office. I don't believe that impeachment is in the best interest of the country. With the partisan divide in this country I'm worried that it would further tear us apart with supporters of impeachment chasing after "justice"  and Trump's hardcore supportings believing this is more "persecution". When Ford pardoned Nixon, he did it so that the entire mess could be put behind us and we as a nation could move forward and heal. I believe that this is really needed today.

While I was taking a shower this morning, a funny thought hit me and I wanted to share it.

This definitely falls under the heading of Evil Political Trick. Please don't attack, I'm not saying this should or even will happen. It was just a thought that popped into my head and I got a chuckle from it.

To set the stage,  the political leadership gets together and presents a deal to President Trump for him to resign in exchange for a pardon, and Trump agrees and resigned. So Pence is then given the oath and becomes President.  His first act is to grant the pardon for President Trump.

His next step, accompanied with flowery speech about how he does this to help heal the country and to show that the two parties are not all that far apart and can work together, nominates Pelosi to be his Vice President. Pence's speech is so good that Pelosi feels she really has no choice but to accept or be branded as a hypocrite (which as we know all politicians hate to be branded as such) so she accepts the nomination. Her nomination quickly passes and she is given the oath and becomes the Vice President.

Now VP Pelosi would have to give up her seat in the house, so the governor of CA would need to appoint a replacement and as the numbers in the House are so close that would happen quickly. A new Speaker of the House would be elected and the federal government made ready for Jan 20th.  And on Jan 21st Pelosi would be unemployed and the House would lose one if it's most experienced in politics members.

Like I said,  under the heading of evil political trick.
