NYC needs info on migrants, now — or faces being overwhelmed
By: Post Editorial Board (New York Post)
So, New York wants a 'Remain in Texas' policy to allow planning? That was the point of the Remain in Mexico policy that Biden has been fighting. Just because Trump initiated the Remain in Mexico policy doesn't mean it's a bad idea.
New York's 'crisis' has been directly caused by Biden's not-Trump politics. So, yes, Biden really is directly responsible for what is happening in New York. And Biden has only been concerned about scoring political points.
New York City is now using 14 hotels to shelter illegal migrants, up from 11 just two weeks earlier. Meanwhile, City Hall's estimate of the new migrant population surged to over 6,000, up 50% in one week. At the very least, the city needs to get a handle on what's ahead.
It's not just those Texas buses: The feds and various charities are bringing migrants here, too — and some are likely coming on their own. But none of them are systematically providing (or collecting?) much information to help the city plan.
As it stands, a Post analysis shows the city could spend more than $300 million a year to house migrants in hotel-based shelters. This influx of migrants has overwhelmed the city's shelter system — and it's only August.
City Hall's estimate is based solely on the numbers who've entered the public shelter system. The Department of Education is trying to assign the migrant kids to schools, but how many might it be overlooking?
Another wrinkle: Many of these folks will be looking to find work, when city employment still hasn't recovered from the COVID lockdowns and exploitation of illegal-immigrant workers is an ongoing nightmare.
Mayor Eric Adams has no desire to slam President Biden over the way the border mess is spilling over here, preferring instead to trade barbs with Texas Gov. Greg Abbott. But he can demand that the Biden administration and all relevant nonprofits start sharing information on who they're bringing here, so the city can at least plan how to handle the tide.
How is New York's desire for a 'Remain in Texas' policy to allow information gathering and planning any different than the Remain in Mexico policy put in place by the Trump administration? Orange Man Bad politics really has screwed the pooch, again.
Biden ain't Trump; that's for sure. But in this case that's not a good thing.
6,000 is a surge ? Adams should have seen the 15,000 illegals under a bridge in Texas last year and the thousands of illegal aliens who have surged across the open border per day since then!
Why is Adams now so afraid of illegal aliens? After all, he's been proud to call NYC a sanctuary city and has labeled illegal aliens "clients" who he welcomes. Simple answer: they're bringing diseases and straining the city's healthcare, housing, labor, food, and educational resources into his backyard.
But, he can't have it both ways! He's been invited to visit the open southern border, but all he can do is whine and bad mouth Abbott instead of being brave enough to go against the Biden Administration and work to fix what the Biden Administration destroyed.
It's all about the money. Adams is building the case for emergency Federal assistance.
What's amazing is how illegal immigration has become a crisis in New York and is treated as business-as-usual in Texas. You know, California has seen huge influxes of illegals, too. Maybe Adams could learn something from Newsom? Apparently there really is a subtle difference between east-coast liberals and west-coast liberals.
DC's Mayor Bowser seems to be doing the same with her sanctuary city "crisis". Hypocrites, both.
What's the old liberal saying? Never let a crisis go to waste.
Of course he doesn't. Why? Because they're both Democrats, and Biden is using federal taxpayer money to bus these illegal aliens to NYC.
"Many of these folks will be looking to find work..."
It should have been obvious from the start that they were going to occupy the bottom of the ladder, from where so many dem votes are expected to come from. That scene will get uglier as they fight to drive that pay scale through the floor.
Another tidbit that seems to get overlooked so often...
