Air Force general reveals 'alarming' number of drones crossing into US airspace at southern border

No, no, no.  The southern border is absolutely secure.  That's what Alejandro Mayorkas, Kamala Harris, Joe Biden, and the unbiased liberal press has told us.  And they can cite each other to prove it.

Nothing to see here.  Move along. These aren't the droids your looking for.

More than 1,000 drones per month are crossing into US airspace near the border with Mexico, a top general told lawmakers Thursday.

The number of unmanned drone incursions is "alarming" and presents a "growing" potential threat to national security, Air Force Gen. Gregory Guillot, the commander of North American Defense Command and US Northern Command, said during a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing.

"The number of incursions was something that was alarming to me as I took command last month," Guillot said in response to a question from Sen. Ted Budd (R-NC).

"I don't know the actual number - I don't think anybody does - but it's in the thousands," he added.

When pressed by Budd on the timeframe the general was using to make his estimation, Guillot responded, "We can probably have over 1,000 a month."

The top NORAD official noted that while the number of incursions alarms him, he hasn't "seen any of them manifest in a threat to the level of national defense."

"But I see the potential only growing," Guillot warned.

Mexican cartels have been using drones to track the location of authorities along the US-Mexico border in order to more easily smuggle humans and drugs, according to US Customs and Border Protection officials.

Rio Grande Valley Sector Chief Patrol Agent Gloria Chavez told the House Oversight Committee in February of 2023 that in her Texas sector alone, more than 10,000 drone incursions and 25,000 drone sightings had been reported in the last year.

"The adversaries have 17 times the number of drones, twice the amount of flight hours and unlimited funding to grow their operations," Chavez told lawmakers.

In January of 2023, authorities discovered drone footage of Border Patrol agents allegedly shot by human smugglers during a raid of what was believed to be a safe house used to hide migrants illegally crossing the US-Mexico boundary.

"Human smugglers using drones to surveil the Border Patrol is a growing trend that we've observed along the border," San Diego Sector Chief Patrol Agent Aaron M. Heitke said in a statement. "This technology provides transnational criminal organizations with new capability that they are eager to exploit."

The unbiased liberal press hasn't reported this so it must be some sort of conspiracy theory made up by the right wing.  Just remember the real threats are Chinese spy balloons and TikTok.

The people illegally jumping the border to invade the United States are only searching for a better life.  Only racists, bigots, xenophobes, conspiracy crazies, and Republicans would question that political narrative spread by the unbiased liberal press.  We've heard that narrative so often we should all be indoctrinated by now.

So ICE needs to invest in drone signal jammers? It's not difficult or expensive.

You are assuming that Mayorkas cares enough to do his damn job.

His track record is piss poor- so why change now?

You are assuming that Mayokas approves of local, or regional purchasing. He doesn't.

Not ICE but CBP.  And CBP already uses drones to surveil the border so jamming signals adversely affects CBP operations.  Add to that the fact that a jamming signal that bleeds across the border into Mexico would violate international law.  That was an issue with Voice of America broadcasts into East Germany and Cuba during the Cold War.

Signal jamming can be done at the individual drone level from a truck with equipment available online.

Which would require a lot of trucks and personnel.  (Isn't this what military deployments to the border were supposed to be doing?)  And individual level jamming may require locating the drone for targeting.  Otherwise the jamming signal must be omnidirectional to eliminate the need to locate the drone.  And omnidirectional jamming may violate international law at the border.

Keep in mind that the objective is to minimize illegal border crossings.  The drones are being used to assist people in illegally crossing the border.  That's why barriers and walls are going to be more effective than electronic gadgets.  The tech becomes obsolete pretty quickly but a wall doesn't.   An effective physical barrier to obstruct illegally crossing the border diminishes the value of drones.

A wall didn't do much in East Germany . Led to the collapse of the Soviet Union . Want to see that here ?

DHS is currently evaluating 4 Counter-Unmanned Aerial  Systems (C-UAS):

  1. Jammers
  2. Cyber-Takeover
  3. Kinetic
  4. High-Energy

I’d rather see open season on cartel members, and human smugglers/sex traffickers, but that would probably piss off biden and his supporters.

Are you advocating for murdering legal asylum seekers, or just migrants that are illegally crossing the border?
