Biden interview with ABC's Stephanopoulos: Date, time, where to watch
By: Emily DeLetter (USA TODAY)
Pre-recorded. Pre-edited. Joe's gonna be just fine.
President Joe Biden's first television interview following the presidential debate will air Friday, as some call for him to step down as the Democratic candidate for president.
Biden will sit down with "Good Morning America" and "This Week" anchor George Stephanopoulos in Wisconsin on Friday for the interview, ABC News confirmed.
Biden has come under recent criticism and is facing pressure from Democrats following his disastrous debate performance against former President Donald Trump. His team previously attributed his raspy voice to a cold, but on Tuesday he blamed jet lag from recent travels overseas for his poor performance on stage.
Here's how to watch Biden's interview with ABC News.
When is Biden's interview with ABC News? How to watch
Biden will sit down with Stephanopoulos for an interview that will air across ABC News platforms on Friday, July 5 at 8 p.m. EDT/7 p.m. CDT, the news outlet confirmed.
"A transcript of the unedited interview will be made available the same day, Friday, July 5," a press release from ABC News states.
A first look at the interview is scheduled to air on the Friday edition of "World News Tonight with David Muir," which begins at 6:30 p.m. EDT/5:30 p.m. CDT.
The interview is scheduled to air again Sunday on "This Week," which is hosted by Stephanopoulos, and showtimes vary by local listings.
Who is George Stephanopoulos?
George Stephanopoulos is the current anchor of the ABC News programs "Good Morning America" and "This Week."
He is a former Democratic Party advisor and served as the White House communications director and later a senior advisor for President Bill Clinton.
Where to watch the, ummmm, interview. Yeah, that's the ticket.
How to watch the, ummmm, interview. Stone cold sober ain't recommended.
Kamala Harris will be the next president
It good to see being in the hospital hasn’t effected your sense of humor.
Kamala Harris will kickTrumps ass into. next week in a debate
That would be the conventional wisdom. But we're living in unconventional times. At this point there should be little doubt that Joe Biden is presiding over the end of an era.
A lot still depends upon who Trump picks as his running mate. There are too many possibilities for Democrats to effectively plan for that next phase of the campaign.
I don't have any doubt that Biden can still do the job as president but I do have a lot of doubts that he can take the fight to Trump in the way that it has to be done so I say he should drop out of the race
And I thought for sure you said you had watched the debate, too!
Well, Biden didn't die during the interview so he made it over the low bar. I was surprised Stephanopoulos didn't toss one or two puff balls which shows Biden is in deep doo doo.
What'd we learn? Biden denies the polls. Biden denies concerns in the party. Biden denies reality. Biden doesn't know if he watched the debate afterwards. Biden is unaware that there was a split screen during the debate and Trump wasn't trying to distract Biden.
The main take away is that Biden cannot look into the camera and effectively lie to the American public any longer. This interview might have bought Biden a few more news cycles to make public appearances but there wasn't anything to tamp down the growing firestorm of outright fear that he's gonna lose big time.
Democrats have spent Biden's entire term preparing to make 2024 a referendum on Trump. That strategy is in the toilet and, now, there's virtually no way for Democrats to make it about Trump no matter who they put on the ballot.
