Social media calls out Tim Walz coaching history after former players take center stage at DNC
Walz served as an assistant coach during Mankato West High's state championship run

Rick Sutton was actually the head coach that turned an 0-27 team into state champions.  In typical grifting style, Tim Walz is stealing more valor.

It would've been a lot more impressive if Tim Walz had been a hockey coach.   Go, Wild!

Former members of the Mankato West High School football team took center stage at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) on Wednesday night in support of their former coach, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, as he formally accepted the Democratic nomination for vice president.

However, social media stirred over the reference to Walz as a football coach that turned a losing team into state champions.

"In Minnesota, we trust a coach who turned a team that was 0-27 into state champions," Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., said in her speech on the third night of the DNC.

Ben Ingman, one of Walz's former students who said the governor also coached him in seventh grade basketball and track at Mankato, echoed that sentiment.

"Coach Walz got us excited about what we might achieve together. He believed in us, and he helped us believe in each other. And his leadership stuck. That track team went on to win a state title, just like the football team."

Several players then took the stage in a pep rally-style fashion, eliciting cheers from the crowd as the school's fight song played in the background.

However, some on social media could not help but point out that Walz only served as an assistant coach while at Mankato.

"Amy Klobuchar introduces Timothy Walz as a coach who 'turned' a team 'into state champions,'" one post on X read. "He was NEVER a head coach. He didn't 'turn' anyone into state champions."

"He was the Assistant Coach not the Coach," Richard Grenell, former U.S. ambassador to Germany, said on X.

"Still really, really confused about why they keep pushing the 'Coach Walz' thing from a million years ago when Tim Walz was a volunteer assistant coach…why not focus on his Governorship…?…no…they just want to focus on Coach Walz…it's strange," another person wrote.

Walz was a faculty member at Mankato from 1996-2006. During that time, he served as the Scarlets linebackers coach and defensive coordinator until 2002. Under head coach Rick Sutton, the school won its first state championship in 1999.

He was inducted into the high school's Hall of Fame in 2019.

Hey, Tim Walz, how are we supposed to look out for our neighbors while minding our own damned business?  Maybe that needs Democrats' famous side eye.

Just keep in mind that Minnesota celebrates and reveres the common loon.

They might just be happy he's going to be gone. Let's see how the results come in from Minnesota on election night. Of course a Harris/Walz win would ensure he wouldn't be back.

Well they are up almost 9 points in MN now, but yes let's keep watching this space until Nov and see where the numbers go.

The Walz effect:

Elementary school students in Mississippi, a state that has long been the butt of  jokes about its poor quality of life , now perform slightly better on national reading tests than their peers in Minnesota.

But hey! he jumps around alot!  Vibes matter, not performance...

Having the state's governor on the ticket only gives Democrats a nine point advantage? And the margin of error is 5 pct?  Plus that nine point advantage is smaller than the 10 points unaccounted for?

Yup, desperate times calls for desperate measures.

Biden had +2. KSTP-TV in Minneapolis has Harris up at +10 this week. Trump has never won Minnesota.

KSTP-TV is located in St. Paul, not Minneapolis.  Yeah, that's a bigger deal in the Twin Cities than anywhere else in the galaxy.  Minneapolis and St. Paul are separated by the Mississippi River but you'd think they were on different continents.

So, dumping Biden and adding Walz only gave Democrats 7 points?  Doesn't seem like much of a bounce, all things considered.

Yeah, my bad. I'm up here next to Duluth and only get down there a couple of times a year, if I'm lucky.

A +7 point swing in 4 weeks isn't bad. I'm not cheerleading it, nor is it all gloom and doom. I also  don't know how much that has to do with Walz. I can't find anything that points to a specific state bump. I know of the 4 people he's the only one with a positive favorability rating at +4.7. Harris has a -2.4, Trump's at -9.6 and JD Vance brings up the rear as the worst VP pick in 20 years at -10.1.

So far, which shouldnt really need to be said.

Please tell us how Trump is going to add to what he has now? Do you think undecided voters who thought Biden was too old are going to mass to Trump ? Why ?  Such people would have to be oblivious to the daily news.

But please tell us, what is trump's path to get more votes than he already has locked up?  ( and as the weeks go on his preposterous behavior is going to lose him some of those )

Trump's polling hasn't really changed.  Yeah, Trump hasn't gained anything but he hasn't lost anything either.

Democrats are trying to pump up the enthusiasm to get out the vote.  But with early voting (which starts in about 50 days) that old-school ground game may not make as much difference as is expected.  With Biden, Democrats were pretty much forced to run on Biden's record and policies; nothing to be enthusiastic about.  Now Democrats are glossing over Harris' record and policies to run a WWE campaign; flashing lights, entertainment value, and no substance.

Democrats lose on record, policy, and substance.  And there wasn't any way to convince Democrats that Biden could win a WWE cage match.

All Harris needs to do is win the majority of the undecided voters. I think there is a much better than even chance she will do that.   Trump has only just begun to self-destruct.

Are undecided voters going to vote for someone who acts like a lunatic every day?

He constantly misleads his audience and never corrects the record when they report what he wanted them to believe.

He's Joe Biden crossed with Richard Simmons.
