'Broken immigration system': Feds grapple with 660,000+ dangerous noncitizens
The deputy director of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement says despite the country's "broken immigration system," noncitizens are being removed and returned at "record numbers."

Kamala Harris has had a come to Jesus moment for addressing irregular migration.  The situation at the border has degraded to such an extent that it's no longer possible to sweep the problem under the political rug.  Illegal immigration is out of control and getting worse.  Harris has dramatically shifted her position on immigration to a tougher approach reminiscent of Bill Clinton's 'tough on crime' legacy.  And Harris' new 'tough on immigration' approach does mimic how Bill Clinton overcame his political weak spot on crime.

Bill Clinton addressed rampant crime during the last decade of the 20th century with 'tough on crime' policies and legislation.  And the real world data demonstrates that Clinton's 'tough on crime' approach dramatically reduced crime, across the board.

The Clinton agenda to address crime was comprehensive; addressing crime and punishment across many facets of the social spectrum.  Clinton's efforts resulted in more police on the streets, stricter enforcement of laws, and harsher punishment for crimes.

  • 1993: Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act (Brady Bill)
  • 1994:  Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act
  • 1994: Public Safety and Recreational Firearms Use Protection Act (assault rifle ban)
  • 1996: The  Prison Litigation Reform Act
  • 1996: The Antiterrorism and Effective Death Penalty Act
  • 1996: Megan’s Law
  • 1996: The Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act
  • 1997:  The Adoption and Safe Families Act
  • 1998: The Higher Education Amendments

Today's advocacy for criminal justice reform is attempting to reverse Clinton's 'tough on crime' legacy by attacking police, redefining the meaning of crime (peaceful protest?), and reducing incarceration under the guise of criminal justice reform.  'Soft on crime' liberals are also slipping down the slope of being soft on immigration.  And that 'soft on immigration' advocacy has created a problem for Harris which can only be addressed with a 'tough on immigration' agenda.

The deputy director of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement says despite the country's "broken immigration system," noncitizens are being removed and returned at "record numbers."

In a letter sent to U.S. Rep. Tony Gonzales, of Texas, last week, Patrick J. Lechleitner provided data highlighting the troubles faced along the southern border and the number of noncitizens being removed.

As of July, there were 662,566 noncitizens with criminal histories on ICE's national docket, Lechleitner said. Of those, 435,719 are convicted criminals and 226,847 have pending criminal charges, he added.

More than 100,000 illegal immigrants — convicted criminals and those pending criminal charges — who have been charged with assault are not being detained.

More than 30,000 charged with a sex-natured offense are out on the street, while 14,000-plus are not detained on homicide charges, and over 70,000 charged on dangerous drug offenses are also out, according to the data.

"ICE recognizes that some jurisdictions are concerned that cooperating with federal immigration officials will erode trust with immigrant communities and make it harder for local law enforcement to serve those populations," Lechleitner wrote in his letter to Gonzales. "However, 'sanctuary' policies can end up shielding dangerous criminals, who often victimize those same communities."

From mid-May 2023 through the end of July 2024, the Department of Homeland Security has returned more than 893,600 illegal immigrants, including more than 138,300 individuals in family units, figures show. Lechleitner wrote that the majority of noncitizens looking to cross the southern border have been "removed, returned or expelled" over the past three years.

"We are removing and returning record numbers of migrants who are unable to establish a legal basis to remain in the United States," he wrote, "and prioritizing for removal those who present national security and public safety risks, and recent border crossers."

Kamala Harris really is promising a path forward that repeats the past.  Harris is utilizing the same misleading doublespeak that Joe Biden used to revive the Cold War.  It's rather amazing that Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton are going to make a come back in the 21st century.  Have we learned nothing?

You are repeating the same misleading information that I seeded an article about just a couple hours ago. Trump and his MAGA surrogates have been lying about this information. The 435,000 criminals do not represent the Biden/Harris administration, they represent 40 years of failure by US politicians to create a comprehensive policy on immigration.  Many of these 435,000 criminals entered while Trump was president, and even before that.

But you dont hear that from right wing liars, do you?

The numbers of these dangerous non-citizens goes up by the hour according to the hate filled racist maga leader and the cult of the maga and they're just roaming the streets and robbing and raping and killing when it's really the cult of the maga who are doing these things.

Where?  Are you denying that immigration is a political problem for Kamala Harris?  It doesn't matter how long these criminals have been in the country, it's still a political problem for Kamala Harris.  Out of control immigration coupled with Trump's 'tough on immigration' promises has forced Kamala Harris to also shift toward a 'tough on immigration' stance.  Harris' own braggadocio on prosecuting immigrant gangs and drug traffickers has really boxed her into adopting a 'tough on immigration' approach.

What I've done is explain that Kamala Harris has shifted toward a 'tough on immigration' stance the same way Bill Clinton shifted to a 'tough on crime' stance.  Kamala Harris doesn't have a choice; she has to walk away from 'soft on immigration' reforms.

Trump has LIED about the very statistics you provide in this article.  LIED.  He specifically said the 435,000 criminals entered during Harris tenure as vice-president. That is a LIE.

Do you not care that the man you want to be president lies like this 365 days, 24 hours a day, always?

There is almost no one I can think of in public life who is not more fit for office than Trump.

Out of control immigration is still a political problem for Kamala Harris.  Harris tried changing the narrative to scapegoat Trump and Republicans but it didn't work.  The voting public is not buying the idea of 'soft on immigration' reforms.

So you dont care that Trump lied about these statistics?    OK.    There is nothing else to say.

Trump is not the source of Kamala Harris' political problem with immigration.  Harris did not make a campaign trip to the border because Trump is lying about anything.  The voting public believes Kamala Harris is soft on immigration.  That is the problem Harris is trying to address.

The southern border and immigration has received more attention from Kamala Harris in the last three months than in the 3 years of being tasked with developing ideas to solve the immigration problem.  It's not Trump's fault that Kamala Harris failed to do what she was supposed to do.

Trying to convince people that he did, is one the Democrats main policy positions
