  • Democratic Rep. Cori Bush called out Biden for his reluctance to publicly say the word "abortion."
  • "I do think that he should say it more," the Missouri congresswoman told HuffPost.
  • Since becoming president in January 2021, Biden has rarely said the word "abortion" in public.

Democratic Rep. Cori Bush called out President Joe Biden for his reluctance to publicly say the word "abortion" during his time in office.

"I do think that he should say it more," the Missouri congresswoman said in an interview with HuffPost that was published on Wednesday.

"People are looking to what the president does," said Bush, who previously revealed that she got an abortion as a teen after being raped.

She added: "A lot of times that holds more weight than what people are hearing come out of Congress. Because folks may not always know their Congress member's name. ... But everybody knows who their president is."

Since becoming president in January 2021, Biden has barely said the word "abortion" in public speaking engagements, sparking criticism from abortion rights advocates.

Biden has used the word "abortion" in some written statements, as well as twotweets, but in public remarks, he has strayed away from the word and instead opted for phrases like "access to health care" and "protecting the rights of women," CNN has previously reported.

In two separate January 2021 and January 2022 statements by Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris on the 48th and 49th anniversaries of Roe v. Wade, the landmark US ruling that granted women the constitutional right to an abortion, the word "abortion" was notably omitted.

Earlier this month, Biden put out a statement that included the word "abortion" in response to the leaked draft opinion that shows the US Supreme Court is poised to overturn the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision.

Biden publicly said the word "abortion" out loud for the first time in his presidency last week while speaking to reporters, HuffPost reported.

There is reason that he says these a lot. "Access to health care" and "protecting the rights of women". It's because for years that is how RvW has been portrayed. The use of the word abortion was used by those who opposed programs like Planned Parenthood saying that was the only reason they existed.

Trump and his supporters are off topic. Biden does have a history of voting against abortion.  He's reluctant to say it because then, in a fit of delusion we've all come to laugh at, his actual stance on the subject will come out (again).

As a U.S. senator from Delaware, Biden voted against a 1977 compromise that allowed Medicaid to fund abortions that included exceptions for victims of rape and incest in addition to concerns for the life of the mother. While the rape and incest exceptions passed in that case, Biden voted in 1981 to again remove them, in what was the most far-reaching ban on federal funds ever enacted by Congress.

Biden also once proposed a constitutional amendment mirroring Alito's  draft Dobbs decision.

We're not supposed to remember or look stuff like that up.  It makes the certain people cry.

"I do think that he should say it more," the Missouri congresswoman said in an interview with HuffPost that was published on Wednesday.

At this point the man has a tiny vocabulary. Most likely Joe has long forgotten the word abortion.

Meanwhile just about every time he speaks, the friendly Washington Post is giving him 3 Pinocchios.

Never mind abortion, Joe is screwed up on every issue.

Here he is telling us the tobacco industry has been immune from prostitution. It's amazing what the people have heard since he came out of the cellar

"Mr Biden has used the word once since taking office, and not in a way that exactly thrilled any of his supporters. Speaking to reporters minutes after the Supreme Court’s draft opinion that would overturn Roe was released, he said:

“The idea that we’re going to make a judgment that is going to say that no one can make the judgment to choose to abort a child based on a decision by the Supreme Court, I think, goes way overboard.”

I'm sure everybody was wondering which side he was on?

No one should be even talking about abortion outside of the woman and her doctor.

Abortion should not be a political issue.

The government should be focused on improving conditions for the citizens inside of our boundaries instead of being focused on what is happening inside a woman's body.

What is purpose of the US government?  To legislate morality?   Wouldn't it be more productive to get our finances in shape and make the US a more hospitable place to all of our citizens that already exist?

Who is monitoring how our government is spending trillions of dollars a year?  It's not the citizens.  We're being distracted being told our purpose in life is to spy on our fellow citizens' sex lives and bring them to heel.

I don't recognize this country any more with all of the sheer hatred that I see on internet forums.

This cannot be said often enough.
