Wyoming Republican Sen. John Barrasso on Wednesday demanded the Energy Department launch a probe into its security clearance process after the agency fired Sam Brinton.

Brinton, considered to be the first high-ranking, non-binary federal official in U.S. government history, was accused of stealing luggage twice.

"It is clear as day that felons should not hold security clearances," said Barrasso, according to Fox News. "For months, I've been demanding answers from the Department of Energy on their failed security clearance process. Secretary [Jennifer] Granholm has provided none."

Brinton, a former nuclear waste official, was dismissed from the agency earlier this month after drawing national attention for allegedly stealing a suitcase worth more than $2,300 and another suitcase worth more than $3,600. Brinton faces up to 15 years in prison.

There is no public information that Brinton had a felony record prior to his hiring last year. And Brinton has not been found guilty in either of the cases of the alleged luggage thefts.

"The department must launch a thorough investigation into the vetting process," Barrasso also said. "They have to respond to legitimate oversight inquiries. It's in our national security interest."

A review of the process and it's results is exactly what is supposed to happen.

But that won't stop the partisan and woke idiots from making this about everything else.

Agreed.

Agreed, including the partisan idiot Barrasso.

There are 2 million federal employees. About .05% are removed every year in spite of their unions.

Private America business rate is close to 3%.

Barrasso is obviously not a lawyer.

idiot Barrasso

He's far from an idiot. A BS degree in Biology, an MD degree from Georgetown, residency at Yale Medical School, plus membership in Phi Beta Kappa does not an idiot make.

Geniuses like Elon Musk and Dr. Barrasso say idiotic things all of the time.

You don't have to go to law school to know that even if Brinton is convicted of

something (which seems inevitable),

A: Brinton is still "innocent" until convicted and

B: not a felon yet.

One would think that a member of the American Medical Association Council of Ethics and Judicial Affairs

would know that.

Interesting guy, radio talk show host and rodeo physician...

plus membership in Phi Beta Kappa does not an idiot make.

Thanks, best sarcastic laugh of the day.

The vetting consisted of "how many boxes does he check?"

It looks like in addition to twice stealing luggage, another crime can be added -  lying to police.

After a woman complained that her Vera Bradley bag was missing on Sept. 16, MSP police reviewed security camera footage and observed Brinton taking the luggage before removing its tag and hurrying away . Brinton was then observed using the same bag on two  subsequent trips to Washington, D.C.,  and acknowledged taking the bag in an interview with police but blamed tiredness.

This guy is a sick puppy.
