Texas Gov. Greg Abbott is sending illegal immigrants to Chicago via airplane after the Illinois city started impounding buses associated with Texas' border security effort known as Operation Lone Star.
"Sanctuary city Chicago started obstructing and targeting our busing mission. Texas will now expand our operation to include flights to Chicago," Abbott, a Republican, said Wednesday on X, formerly Twitter. "Until Biden steps up to secure the border, we will continue to provide overwhelmed Texas border towns with much-needed relief."
Chicago Democratic Mayor Brandon Johnson "is failing to live up to his city's 'Welcoming City' ordinance by targeting migrant buses from Texas," Abbott spokesperson Andrew Mahaleris said on X, referring to how Chicago's "Welcoming City Ordinance," which prohibits the city from denying taxpayer-funded services to people based on their immigration status or citizenship. The ordinance also stops the police department from working with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to arrest illegal immigrants who have an outstanding arrest warrant, have a felony conviction or were in the city's gang database.
A flight from El Paso carried more than 120 passengers to Chicago on Tuesday, Mahaleris said.
Last week, Chicago began impounding incoming migrant buses without a permit from the city and looking to other locations in Illinois to send the new arrivals. Illinois spent more than $500 million in 2023 alone to assist the approximately 24,000 illegal immigrants who have arrived in Chicago over the past 16 months.
Since the launch of Operation Lone Star, Texas has bused more than 82,900 illegal immigrants to sanctuary cities across the nation and apprehended more than 488,500 illegal immigrants, according to Abbott and the Texas Department of Public Safety.

A Democrat failing to enforce their own promises, policies and laws? Can't say that's surprising.
Good way to quickly help out these "Sanctuary Cities".
Abbott doing's a great job. No wonder Americans continue to flock to Texas.
With a governor who is helping out other governors and mayors fulfill their policies why wouldn't they.
The sanctuary cities continue to prove that the whole thing was nothing more than virtue signaling.
Abbot and desantis sending migrants to inland “sanctuary cities” is probably the most brilliant political move of the century. Completely exposed the hypocrisy of democrats on this issue.
It has worked out great. It's forced the Democrats to acknowledge there is a problem at the border, it forced Democrats do deal with high volumes of illegals entering their cities and states. In a nutshell, it exposed the Democrats hypocrisy.

Although none of the blue state governors and mayors have actually blamed Biden and Mayorkas for the illegal alien invasion that they deliberately created, some Democrats have finally opened their pablum mouths and begged for more federal taxpayer money - even though throwing more money at the illegal alien invasion that Biden/Mayorkas created won't end the invasion.
They only opened their mouths when it began to be an inconvenience for them. None of them have ask for money for the border states that have to deal with this on a much larger scale.
Those with the sanctuary city / state policies should not be getting any kind of federal money. They set up those policies on their own accord and should cover the cost on their own.
Just helping the feral cats get to their sanctuaries.
It's important to know that all of the illegal aliens on that flight willingly signed a consent waiver before boarding. In the past, other governors have done the same before transporting illegal aliens either by bus or plane.
