Biden pledges to sign 'toughest and fairest' border reforms 'ever'

President Joe Biden weighed in himself Friday evening on the drama surrounding the Senate's Ukraine-immigration deal, claiming the legislation represents the "toughest and fairest set of reforms to secure the border we've ever had in our country."

Biden's comments come as the White House has repeatedly criticized House Republicans and former President Donald Trump for "getting in the way" of negotiations in the Senate.

"For too long, we all know the border's been broken. It's long past time to fix it," Biden wrote in a statement. "That's why two months ago, I instructed my team to begin negotiations with a bipartisan group of Senators to seriously, and finally, address the border crisis. For weeks now that's what they've done. Working around the clock, through the holidays, and over weekends."

"What's been negotiated would - if passed into law - be the toughest and fairest set of reforms to secure the border we've ever had in our country," he continued. "It would give me, as President, a new emergency authority to shut down the border when it becomes overwhelmed. And if given that authority, I would use it the day I sign the bill into law."

Biden reiterated his calls for Congress to approve the supplemental funding request he submitted in October 2023, which he claims would yield "an additional 1,300 border patrol agents, 375 immigration judges, 1,600 asylum officers, and over 100 cutting-edge inspection machines to help detect and stop fentanyl at our southwest border."

"Securing the border through these negotiations is a win for America. For everyone who is demanding tougher border control, this is the way to do it," the president concluded. "If you're serious about the border crisis, pass a bipartisan bill and I will sign it."

Earlier on Friday, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) signaled in a "Dear Colleague" letter that the Senate's yet-to-be-finalized bill would be "dead on arrival" when it reaches the House.

I thought the executive branch had authority over the borders?

And if given that authority, I would use it the day I sign the bill into law."

Fuck off Brandon.

He hasn't enforced the border or our immigration laws since day one.

Giving him more money and power will only allow him to turn the southern border into a Democrat processing center. Complete with DOJ leftist judges that will grant US citizenship to anything.- so long as they promise to vote Democrat.

The career criminal and traitor needs to be impeached; not negotiated with.

He could make a difference right now, he doesn't have to wait for something to be put on his desk.  He is just setting up who is to blame if nothing gets to his desk.  Less and less people are drinking your piss infused Kool-Aid Joe.

Far too many are still gulping it down like it is last call for alcohol at a football game in Buffalo in the heart of winter. Many have already swallowed the narrative that it is Republicans in the House holding up border security.

I guess Brandon forgot that up until a month ago he wouldn't even admit there was a problem at the border.

You would almost think it was an election year and polling said Border security was an issue for the vast majority of the voting public.

Which means never.

And if given that authority

Biden is a liar. He's always had that authority.  The sad part is he knows his base either doesn't understand that he's lying and wouldn't care if they knew. The media, of course, will never call him on these lies  or ever try to  hold him to account.  He's not a republican, so he can lie and lie and they'll cheer him on and parrot his press releases.

I work in intermodal transportation.

Brandon's department of homeland security shut down multiple vital crossings between the US and Mexico- when illegals were literally riding the trains right to our door step. Didn't stop the illegals from coming; but it did allow them to make a "safer" crossing into the US. Where the vast majority were processed and released into the main part of the country.

Brandon cares more for illegals than he does US commerce.

It wouldn't shock me if he brings back passenger trains from Mexico to the US on the tax payer's dime to give the illegals a safe, free, easy ride to our border.
