Follow us Laura Helmuth, editor-in-chief of Scientific American, resigned after backlash over controversial social media posts that she made after Donald Trump's win. Helmuth faced criticism for calling Trump voters "f**king fascists" and expressing frustration with election results. She apologized for the offensive remarks, but ultimately stepped down from her position. Scientific American endorsed Kamala Harris in the election. The editor-in-chief of Scientific American, Laura Helmuth, who called Donald Trump voters 'f**king fascists' and drew flak for her X post announced that she would resign from her post. The announcement came on her Bluesky account. Bluesky is what many liberals are migrating to dumping Elon Musk's X. "I've decided to leave Scientific American after an exciting 4.5 years as editor in chief. I'm going to take some time to think about what comes next (and go birdwatching)," Helmuth announced.

Helmuth's controversial X posts that she deleted facing backlash

On November 5 night, Helmuth apologized to younger voters that "my Gen X is so full of f**king fascists". "Solidarity to everybody whose meanest, dumbest, most bigoted high school classmates are celebrating early results because f**k them to the moon and back."
"Every four years I remember why I left Indiana (where I grew up) and remember why I respect the people who stayed and are trying to make it less racist and sexist. The moral arc of the universe isn't going to bend itself."
Facing massive outrage, she deleted those posts and apologized for comments which were "offensive and inappropriate". Meanwhile, social media users called for her resignation and Trump's close aide Elon Musk chimed into the debate. " "Does the editor-in-chief of Scientific American seem like someone who is entirely dedicated to uncompromising scientific integrity? Or does she seem like a political activist who has taken over a scientific institution?" Musk shared this post with a reply: "The latter".
Helmuth also shared a Scientific American article on how to cope with election grief. "It's not like a grief of a person for whom you have a death certificate and a funeral after and rituals of support and comfort. We're stuck with this. I wrote about it as frozen grief," the article said.
Scientific American endorsed for Kamala Harris and it was only the second time in the magazine's 179-year history that it made an endorsement for the presidential election.

Sometimes it's best to keep your commentary to those in your inner circle.

She probably thought that because she posted on the liberal echo chamber bluesky, no one would take notice or argue with her.

She was wrong.

That rag has been doing that to itself for years and I’m sure she was a big part of it.

The publication is a shell of its former self …..

It amazes me that any election result can have such an effect on a person.  Most Americans can get over it and get on with their lives, Trump haters can't seem to.  Unless of course hating Trump and people that voted for him have become their lives.

Trump is not ethically, morally, or intellectually fit to hold high office in the United States of America.

That is THE bottom line.  It is not TDS, it is common fucking sense.

It’s bizarre. So many on the left have gone even batshit crazier than they were before trumps win. I seriously think they have a mental deficiency.

I agree. We watch it do down in real time here on NT.

What's news, here?

On NT, it is forbidden to say "so-and-so is a fascist" even if that person is blatantly racist, misogyn, and authoritarian.

Fascists must be protected.

It's also forbidden to say so-and so is a racist worthless taker who wants to vote people into office to pay for their shit because they are to lazy or stupid to support themselves, by making the rich pay "their fair share", and to nobodies surprise they are too stupid to define what fair share is. so the moderation balances out, mostly.

Lazy stupid racists who think people of color can't compete with whites are also protected.

You know, you're right.  It's just another lefty throwing a hissy fit because things didn't go their way.  We have been seeing it a lot from them here on NT.

Where are all the defenders of people being able to speak their minds and not get canceled for it? Oh, I forgot, that only applies for the MAGAites and Trump, no one else is supposed to speak truth to power for fear they'll get canceled.

And let's face it, she's not wrong, she just stated something that those on the left aren't allowed to say. Those on the right can say all they want and accuse the left of being socialists without a lick of actual evidence but if someone on the left who isn't anonymous says Trump or his minions are fascist outcome the rightwing cancel police. Fucking hypocrites.

She does have the right to say what she wants. She resigned on her own. No one cancelled her.

What an ass backward comment.

I completely agree with you, I was being sarcastic because those on the right regularly complain about conservatives making uncalled for statements or promoting violence who get their hands slapped or their twitter account temporarily banned which triggers rightwing conservatives to scream cry and whine about getting "canceled".

What an ass backward comment.

It was pretty straight forward. There is clearly a double standard for rightwing conservatives who have no problem trying to cancel voices they disagree with, from the Dixie Chicks to teachers that support diversity and equality and lgbtq rights, all while loudly claiming how wrong it is for anyone to judge them for expressing how they feel about the other half of America that disagrees with them. Conservatives demand liberals and progressives take responsibility for their words like when someone calls them fascists, while at the same time they're claiming those on the left are "destroying America", are "communists", "socialists", "fascists", "sinners" and "pro-abortion" as if anyone on the left is actually happy and excited when a baby gets aborted. But with the rightwing conservative double standard, they get to talk shit about the left all they want and disparaging half the country that disagree with them then pretend to be offended when they get called names in return claiming it's outrageous to disparage the rightwing conservative half of the country.

If you took this whole rant, changed "conservative" to "liberal", you would have been far, far more accurate.

You have heard the term "cancel culture", right?

That wasn't aimed at leftists.
