MSNBC anchor Rachel Maddow will reportedly take a $5 million pay cut as the cable television network's ratings continue to nosedive.
This follows Comcast, NBC's parent company, announcing it would split MSNBC and CNBC from NBC News in a bid to create a new spin-off company with several other Comast-owned cable channels.
Maddow, 51, currently earns an impressive $30 million a year at the network, but according to The Ankler, after renegotiations, her new contract will be for $25 million a year over the next five years.
"This is a difficult time, and they needed to keep her," one executive told the outlet.
"No one else can do what she does. You can't build a brand like it overnight."

Rachel, who joined MSNBC in 2008, is the network's most-recognized news anchor and has become known for leading the channel's election night coverage.
Under her new contract, the liberal political commentator will continue to anchor her Monday night show and produce podcasts and documentaries.
The Express US has reached out to MSNBC for comment.
Aside from the impending shake-up, executives at MSNBC have watched as the network's ratings have tanked since Donald Trump's presidential election victory on November 5.
One insider at MSNBC said bosses have struggled to come to grips with Vice President Kamala Harris' defeat, describing the network as a "safe space for the liberal TV audience."
"We were so Harris propaganda that when she lost, viewers were shocked," one on-air pundit pointed out to the publication.
"It turned into one giant circle jerk and echo chamber. If MSNBC wants to be of service to its viewers, they can't keep them in fantasy land," they added.
On Monday, longtime Morning Joe co-hosts Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough shared that they had travelled to Trump's Florida estate, Mar-a-Lago, to meet with the president-elect.
"Joe and I realized it's time to do something different," Mike shared, as Joe chimed in: "And that starts with not only talking about Donald Trump but also talking with him."
The meetup sparked outrage among viewers as well as others inside the network, according to CNN.

Oh no. All the way down to $25million? 25 times too much.
Dude is still on TV?
The station itself may be up for sale. Its value is questionable.
She should take a pay cut. She's only on once a week now, other than special breaking news stories and election coverage. Now that the election is over she will be far less visible.
Her doppelganger is still on every day at 8:00
Whatever that means. Rachel Maddow is on Mondays, and the other four days are a woman named Alex Wagner. During the election Maddow was on more , but unless Trump immediately destroys democracy I expect Maddow will be on less and less.
The insignificant and habitually wrong do tend to fade into oblivion.
What about all her conspiracy theories?
Her reading of Trump's tax return was a classic.
Rachel Maddow is living proof that a good lie never dies, there are still some claiming trump paid no income tax including herself, MSNBC and Maddow specifically are where journalistic integrity goes to die.
Hilarious!
Just in: Elon Musk and Don JR. are mulling over the idea of buying MSNBC.
