Ever receive an expensive gift from somebody who you aren't even sure you know?

I'm curious because i just did today (sorry if you are here and reading this lol). A Les Paul to be exact. The person ordered through Amazon and sent it as a gift to my place. It had my name as the recipient. Now, obviously this person knows a little bit about me, because they knew i played guitar and potentially had my address (although maybe they simply clicked my name on Amazon and Amazon attached the address privately....not sure. Also, this person live in Wisconsin, and to the best of my knowledge, i dont know anybody in Wisconsin.

I looked her name up and found out that she, her husband, and their son live together...that she and her hubbie are between the ages of 50 and 54, and also got a phone number. However, as much as i would like to thank her for the awesome gift, i feel it might be a little rude to follow up the thanks with a "now who are you?" I feel like i vaguely recognize the name, like maybe she is a relative or friend to another friend of mine, but i haven't figured out who that would be as of yet.

So....a mystery at this point. I'm sure i will end up calling the number sometime in the next week if i havent figured it out, but i am loathe to do so without knowing a bit more beforehand.

You've got yourself quite a dilema there. lol!

Wow, what a nice gift! Honesty, straight forwardness is always the best policy in my book. A gift like that deserves a thank you and there's a possibility sheselected you by accident. Stranger things have happened on Amazon. Maybe she wanted to send a guitar to someone as a random gift and your name happened to pop-up.

I wouldask, "are you sure you intended to send it to me?"..."I'm curious, what motivated you to send me such a nice gift?" Hopefully she is talkative and will fill you in on all the details - you won't have to ask asingle thing.

Another aspect to this I would question is,should I return thegift? I think you will have that answer after the phone call.

Be agentleman about it and it'llbe cool.

Good luck and keep us posted. :-)

Yes . Her name was Pamela and her gift was in her bedroom . And I hardly knew her .
Does that count ?

Shelly ,

Considering that she completely wore me out I'm inclined to agree with that .

BTW , I was thinkin' that Pete might write a note something like this :
Was it something I did ? :~ )

Dang, that is the strangest story I have heard in a long time. Maybe a family friend? I have gotten expensive gifts from Matt's job, but at least we knew why... they were bribes, LOL. And none of them were this neat.

This is a tough one, since the gift is so outstanding, you have to recognize it in some way. Got me? I think your gonna have to ask some friends or family if they know this person.

Peter - very strange event. I'm inclined to think it was accidentally sent to you. The 'how' I have no idea but I think I would call and find out. Interesting dilemma.

Peter,

Matt and I agree with Sooves. We think that it is an accident. It is the only logical conclusion. They have somehow mixed you up with another person. Someone who is going to spend that kind of money on you, you would know.... Call them, and say something like Hi, Peter Faden here. I just got this great guitar from you.... and pause and see if they say anything first.Let them do the talking. You might want to give them little details to your life, like your daughters birth... something that might clue you in or them in if there was or was not a mistake.

Larry, it was an Epiphone L.P. Special

In investigating more closely, what actually happened is that instead of ending me the speaker system i had ordered, they sent me somebody else's guitar (that person got my speakers). Sent the guitar back, and the speakers are on their way. It was quite the mystery for a little while though. :)

Well I'm glad it's all figured out - but wasn't it more fun thinking you got gifted?
