Arnold Schwarzenegger says he would run for president if the Constitution allowed it — and added that he could win in 2024.
"Look, it's a no brainer. I see so clearly how I could win that election," Schwarzenegger told CNN's Chris Wallace in an interview airing Friday.
The Terminator actor-turned-politician was born in Austria and is barred from serving as president because the Constitution requires the nation's top leader to be a "natural-born citizen."
He said he believes he is uniquely qualified to bring deeply divided Americans together.
"Think about it right now," Schwarzenegger said. "I mean, who is there that is really a person that can bring everyone together … because it's now a question about who do you vote against rather than who do you vote for."
Schwarzenegger, 75, is a Republican who served two terms as governor of California. His ex-wife is Maria Shriver, a member of the storied Democratic Kennedy clan.
The former Mr. Universe superstar has fiercely criticized former President Donald Trump, who is two years older than him.
He said he was shocked by the 37-count federal criminal indictment of Trump for stashing classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago resort.
"If the charges are correct, then he's going to be in deep trouble," Schwarzenegger said.
Even though Trump leads the Republican primary field by a wide margin, Schwarzenegger believes he has no chance of winning a general election.
"I'm not worried about it," he said. "I don't think it's gonna happen."

If legal, I almost would think he would have a shot.
A younger Arnold would. He is too old. Of course, he is ineligible so that ends that.
Oh, but he's made a few mistakes in interviews lately. Apparently, he recently said that there's no heaven. My Facebook feed, which gets its direction from who-knows-where, is full of sad faces, angry faces, tots and pears for him, and "that's what's wrong with Hollywood/this world/people today," and "he'll find out someday when he's in the hot place."
So, I'm not sure he could win, now that he's pissed off religious fundies. They'd have way more trouble with that than they would with him cheating on Maria Shriver for years, which isn't hypocritical of them at all. No, sirreee.
Aren't you suppose to sire children with the maid?
Only if your name is Abraham and you can't conceive with your wife who is also your half sister. Arnolds can't.
Just one more outstanding rule penned by our founders
The Terminator has been terminated from the presidency.
Although it would have been fun to say, Don't mess with the US, we will terminate you...
And,to sully
He’d be a lot better than most of the available options. And, yeah, he could totally win.
Generally speaking, I think that many who immigrate to the U.S. understand and appreciate the freedom and opportunity available in the U.S. better than perhaps many who are natural-born citizens here. Especially those who immigrate or seek asylum from more oppressive or unsafe environments, and who understand that liberty and opportunity are worth the hard work it takes to maintain and properly utilize them.
Schwarzenegger is from Austria so his immigration story is perhaps not as compelling as those who come from other parts of the world, but I think he gets the part about making the most of one's opportunities through a hard work ethic. He can't be POTUS, but he can certainly set a better example for the American people than some who have been.
Arnold had a much rougher life than most people are aware of. His father was a Nazi and quite brutal.
