Jim Jordan Claims Trump Has 'Never Been About Retribution' As White House Mulls Pardons
The White House is weighing the idea of preemptive pardons for people who may be on Trump's list of political enemies.

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) said Thursday Donald Trump has "never been about retribution" as the White House weighs the idea of preemptive pardons for people that have long been in the president-elect's crosshairs.

Several media outlets reported Thursday that senior White House aides were having serious discussions about potential pardons for some of Trump's political enemies. Names bandied about include former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.), California Sen.-elect Adam Schiff (D), and Anthony Fauci, the former head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease.

Fox News host Larry Kudlow asked Jordan — a fierce backer of the president-elect — what Democrats were planning. The Ohio Republican went on to compare the effort to the group of Trump allies who asked the former president for pardons of their own during the waning days of his first term in office over their roles in the effort to overturn the 2020 election.

"[Democrats] went after some of my colleagues who they said asked for pardons, I don't know that they ever did," Jordan said Thursday. "This is ridiculous. Donald Trump has never been about retribution. Donald Trump has been stopping these agencies from being weaponized against we the people. And frankly, from being weaponized against him."

Some of Trump's closest allies in Congress that reportedly asked Trump for pardons included former Reps. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) and Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.). Jordan himself was also identified as someone who talked about pardons for Trump's allies, although he never asked for one himself, a former Trump official told the House Jan. 6 committee in 2022.

Despite Jordan's claims on Thursday, Trump has repeatedly vowed to enact revenge on those he has deemed as political enemies. He said Cheney was among those on the House Jan. 6 committee who should "go to jail," and he called Schiff and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) both "enemies from within."

Trump has also regularly accused President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Barack Obama of corruption, saying he would leverage the Justice Department to investigate them.

The president-elect has also announced his plans to nominate a slate of loyalists to lead the nation's justice and law enforcement agencies, all of whom have long backed his plans for retribution.

"I am your warrior, I am your justice," Trump told supporters in Texas last year. "For those who have been wronged and betrayed … I am your retribution."

In what world is this in anyway, in any case acceptable?

A consultation with a doctor, in discussing sometimes difficult life choices, is a protected discussion.

Until the procedure, when those who have absolutely no stake, no standing in determining what is in the best interest of an individual patient, somehow feel they have some inexplicable duty to intervene, intercede, and invoke their imagined authority.

You continue to intentionally misuse the fact-checker.   The fact-checker is prompt-based.   That means it is not AI but rather a search engine which uses your prompt (your query) to match its database of fact-check reports.   Thus how you phrase your query matters.

Getting no results does not mean that the claim (in concept) does not exist publicly with a fact check.   Of course Trump did not use the exact language of the prompt you provided, but he certainly made comments similar to that (arguably worse) ... weaponizing the military.

For example this prompt delivered the following from Google Fact-Checker and quite a few entries from Politifact.   Here are the Google Fact-Checker entries:

Stated Claim:   Trump enemies within

Trump never said he would "weaponize the DOJ to go after his adversaries"

There are plenty of exact words that Trump has not stated.   You continue to play a literal game to dishonestly attempt to excuse Trump.

What he has stated, as I showed, is that he would actually use the National Guard or the Military to go after 'enemies within'.   That is an extraordinary abuse of presidential power especially since he named Pelosi and Schiff as example 'enemies within'.

So if this scoundrel would publicly make such a statement, and others such as claiming the entire Jan 6th committee should go to jail, that illustrates the warped perspective of the loose-cannon you helped vote into office.

In a new interview,  Trump was asked by Kristin Welker if he was going to appoint a special prosecutor to go after Joe Biden. Trump feigns ignorance of the question as if to say why would you ask that, and then Welker reads a truth social he made last year where he plainly says he will appoint a special prosecutor to investigate Joe Biden

“As soon as I am re-elected, I will appoint a real special counsel or maybe you’ll call it a special prosecutor, whatever you want to call it you can, to look at these bribes, kickbacks, crimes, as well as the shameless attempt at a cover-up. Justice will be done.”

Trump then simply ignores what he wrote and says it will all be up to Bondi.  Of course Bondi is a puppet.

No Google fact-check information was found for claim: 'Trump said he would weaponize the DOJ to go after his adversaries'

Donald Trump has repeatedly promised to weaponize the federal government during a second administration by pursuing revenge, retaliation and retribution against his political enemies. Because Trump is posting primarily on Truth Social, his newly-public social media company with only a niche following, the extent of his threats have mostly flown under the radar. Trump’s attitude can be summed up in one Truth Social post from August, 2023: “IF YOU GO AFTER ME,  I’M COMING AFTER YOU !”

Well, the fear seems justified since the people at risk know where the skeletons are hidden.  But that avoids the pertinent issue.  Is seeking justice revenge or reckoning?  Is being held accountable an act of retribution?

A pardon won't provide any protection against future crimes.  A pardon doesn't exempt anyone from being required to give testimony as a witness.  And the pardon frees the witness to disclose everything since there is no longer risk of incrimination.  A pardon won't protect that witness from future charges of contempt or perjury.  And now lying to the FBI is a criminal offense that carries a sentence of jail time.

Biden pardoning all these people may actually further Trump's pursuit of accountability and justice.  Immunity from prosecution means those who have been pardoned have no reason to lie.
