Great State of Canada?

President-elect Donald Trump mocked Prime Minister Justin Trudeau overnight as the "governor" of the "Great State of Canada" after having recently warned of tariffs on the country.
"It was a pleasure to have dinner the other night with Governor Justin Trudeau of the Great State of Canada," Trump wrote on his Truth Social account at just after midnight Tuesday. "I look forward to seeing the Governor again soon so that we may continue our in depth talks on Tariffs and Trade, the results of which will be truly spectacular for all!"
Reached for comment on the quip, Trump spokesman Steven Cheung said only, "It's so good."
Trudeau's office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Trump has recently joked that Canada should become the 51st state, even suggesting it directly to Trudeau during their dinner at Mar-a-Lago, his Florida home, Fox News reported, citing two people at the table who heard the discussion.
Speaking to host Kristen Welker on NBC News' "Meet the Press" last week, Trump made a similar suggestion as he discussed how his plan to impose tariffs on Canada and Mexico would make the U.S. "rich," characterizing the U.S.-Canada trade deficit as a form of subsidy.
"We're subsidizing Canada to the tune over $100 billion a year. We're subsidizing Mexico for almost $300 billion. We shouldn't be — why are we subsidizing these countries? If we're going to subsidize them, let them become a state," he said in the interview, which aired Sunday.
Trudeau said Monday that Canada would, "as we did eight years ago, respond to unfair tariffs," The Associated Press reported.
Trump hosted Trudeau at Mar-a-Lago on Nov. 30 and said on Truth Social that they had a "very productive meeting" at which they discussed addressing the fentanyl and drug crisis, illegal immigration and "fair trade deals."
Trudeau told reporters afterward that he had an "excellent" conversation with Trump but did not take any further questions.
Last week, the premier of Ontario, Doug Ford, was asked on Fox News about Trump's reported joke about Canada's joining the U.S.
Ford complimented Trump's sense of humor. "It's a funny comment. I guess he's still upset that, you know, in 1812, we burnt down your White House, and he's holding a grudge after 212 years," he said.
Meanwhile, Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., joked this month that he would support Canada's becoming part of the U.S.
"Trump has suggested that Canada become the 51st state in our union," he wrote on X. "Does that mean that we can adopt the Canadian health care system and guarantee health care to all, lower the cost of prescription drugs, and spend 50% less per capita on health care?"

Yeah....real classy, too. /s
canada and mexico are the only 2 countries besides the US that moron can identify on an unlabeled map of the world ... maybe ...
Maybe being the operative word. I bet he thinks Canada is to the south of us and Mexico is to the east of us
…directionless does not begin to describe his level of disrespect…
I'm disgusted by his words. I don't think he meant them in a joking manner, either. His senility is getting worse
I'm disgusted by his presence on the planet ...
I believe that's the general sentiment among smart people
Trump likes to own people. If they are not part of the cult they must be owned by words. Humiliating the head of a country of 41 million people is fun for a psychopath like Trump.
Pretty sure he can't add tariffs to state goods
Trump appears to be purposely offensive, but I don't think that's exactly right.
I think he's still playing to MAGA‘s cheers, unaware (uncaring) of damage to international relations.
Nah Bob.. this is not damaging international relations.. Trudeau headed straight to Mar A Logo before the president elect even takes office - Macron invited the president elect to the Notre Dame reopening. Zelenskyy is running around wanting the president elects' ear as well
I am a foreign policy junkie .. I believe that both Biden and Trump (including Obama) are/were wrong about Syria not being our fight. Syria will be Taliban'esque (a terrorist haven) in no time at all.. 'we' already let Afghanistan fall to the Taliban.. Allowed Daesh to parade across Iraq killing people and destroying history .. allowed Assad to kill 600k + while crying Assad must go (shout out to former President Obama and the red line in the shifting sand that was his foreign policy) at the same time allowing Russia into Syria, Iran into Iraq to continue the brutalization where Daesh left off (?).. and so on and so forth because those countries were not our fight. Air strikes in the early days of Daesh would have spared Iraq and Syria from their destructive rampage - but it was not 'our fight'
Ukraine is not our fight either .. the Ukraine is corrupt, yet they are white people? A fuck ton of cash is being pumped in a country that no one wants in NATO.. interesting? -- Then there is Turkey, a country that purged judges and journalist .. a dreaded strong man [Erdoğan] is a member of NATO. Hmmm ... go figure
No clutching of the pearls Bob... so called democracy is not endangered any more under Trump than it is with the Biden administration .. foreign relations aka international relations are not under greater threat either ... OOO my golly gosh Bob there is so much that has taken place in the past 10 + years [I never even brought up the 'not the coup' in Ukraine and Crimea] there has been a lot of foreign relations missteps, have you not been paying attention? : )
Good to see you, Bob... seems like a lifetime since I read you last. Hope life is treating you well
Peace...!
I thought that Trudeau’s response about them burning down the WH in 1812 was a real poke in Trumps eye. Of course Trump is so ignorant that he doesn’t even know there was the war of 1812.
Bernie got him with a good one as well.
Every time Trump opens his mouth he show he 5 year old mentality.
Well today the Canadians showed that they would really play hardball if Trump wanted to hit them with tariffs, they would cut of energy to the US, energy being electrical power.
Yep, the crude sand oil will still flow to TX and LA to be converted into kerosene destined for China and SE Asia,
but the electricity is as huge as the Line 5 which sends crude and natural gas in both directions keeping Michigan and MN warm in the winter.
Should be fun.
Michigan and MN and NY. Plus they have a few more weapons ready as well. Look out alcohol producers.
not the Crown!
Maybe !
it should be hilarious when rfk jr goes after the corn farmers ...
