Sarah Huckabee Sanders Probably Wishes She Could Have This Tweet Back
Twitterati has a long memory when it comes to controversial tweets. White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders found this out the hard way when one of her old tweets, which spoke ill of those critical of the FBI, was dug up and retweeted by social media users Sunday.
The tweet was written last November — just before the election — in light of speculation that presidential candidate Hillary Clinton was disliked within the FBI.
It also contained the link of a Nov.3, 2016 Political Wire article, where writer Taegan Goddard had pointed out why the FBI was becoming a “Trumpland.”
Deep antipathy to Hillary Clinton exists within the FBI,” mentioned the article , adding, “Current and former FBI officials, none of whom were willing or cleared to speak on the record, have described a chaotic internal climate that resulted from outrage over director James Comey’s July decision not to recommend an indictment over Clinton’s maintenance of a private email server on which classified information transited.”
Given that her current boss, President Donald Trump, went on a Twitter rant this weekend, terming the FBI's reputation "in tatters," the sweet irony of Sander's tweet was not lost on users of the microblogging site.
People started likening the year-old tweet to the ongoing situation with Trump.
n his Twitter rant over the weekend, the president went after the FBI.
“Tainted (no, very dishonest?) FBI 'agent’s role in Clinton probe under review.' Led Clinton Email probe. @foxandfriends Clinton money going to wife of another FBI agent in charge,” Trump tweeted Sunday.
He followed this up with another tweet , where he wrote: “After years of Comey, with the phony and dishonest Clinton investigation (and more), running the FBI, its reputation is in Tatters - worst in History! But fear not, we will bring it back to greatness.”
However, the tweet that caused all hell to break loose and his political opponents to threaten Trump with obstruction of justice was posted by the president Saturday. In the tweet, Trump admitted he fired former National security Adviser Michael Flynn because he lied to the FBI and Vice President Mike Pence.
Surprised? I'm not. These people can't keep track of their lies. Maybe one of you computer genius could set them up with a program on their Iphones so they won't constantly stick their feet in their mouth
I felt the same way ... after all it is the FBI!
I believe(d) Comey to be a man of honor .. cannot say I agree with his decision regarding the H. email server debacle .. yet I accepted it, albeit begrudgingly. Comey's firing ticked me off - but then he leaked information to a friend in order to trigger the special prosecutor (prob was the right thing to do .. not for me to judge, but it was a leak nonetheless) after his dismissal. Just re watched his testimony to congress this weekend .. made me wonder when he will be testifying in the collusion probe.
All that said - why should Sarah Huckabee Sanders wish she had never tweeted it? A year later it is some kind of weapon? [thumbs in ears fingers wiggly with tongue sticking out?]
[snicker] any other President could claim the FBI portion of the tweet was a mistake - but not Trump ... nope nope nope - as he has an issue with admitting making a mistake, has to find someone to blame .. or attempts to lie his way out of it ... [sigh]
