The Hinsdale House
In October of 2020 my sister and I made a road trip to the Seneca ALlegany Casino to spend a couple of nights to get away. Very close to there is the Hinsdale House. It is reported to be one of the most haunted houses in Western NY, but there are those that do not agree. We decided to check it out (fall foliage was brilliant anyways). The history we were told at the house has been in dispute for years. It was a creepy house and we got some strange pictures.
The history:
Told To Us Disputed
Native American Burial Mounds No running water, so no villages near there - no burial grounds
Seneca Indians massacred other tribe Not in Seneca Indian oral history
2 brothers ran an stagecoach stop Inn
& raped, robbed & killed passengers House not situated well enough to be a stagecoach stop
Another 2 brothers owned the property - fratricide Those brothers' name never on deed
Exorcism by ST. Bonaventure Priest No record of this
Dandy's terrified in the 1970s Owner book in 2000 says no way
There are a lot more instances of the disputed history, but I will move on. Now for some pictures:
The first two show a white "blob" in the window that seems to change position from one shot to the next (mind you I am taking pics one right after the other). Also keep in mind there is NOTHING on that screened in porch.
The next two are of two spots that looked like eyes & appear to change the direction they are looking in.
The last pictures of the house I am going to add is the one with the dolls. My sister said the one doll's eyes followed her around the room & she felt it was going to follow her.
One other thing: As we were walking out to the pond where supposedly a woman drowned & now tries to pull people in I heard a "wood knock" - just like in all the Bigfoot shows. Our guide said "Oh, there goes sasquatch."
Pictures of wooded area behind the house:
It was still a good place to visit & I did get to mark it off my bucket list. I just wish the history they tell was not disputed. I prefer true history - that is creepy enough.

That is one creepy looking doll.
What's a "wood knock"? I think I've heard of it in relation to Big Foot but can't remember what it means
The way it is explained is that Bigfoot takes a large branch and bangs it against a tree. They believe this is one way the BigFEET communicate.
The doll was creepy, but I think she overreacted. She gets that way with clowns, too.
I thought it was something like that. Thanks for the info.
I hate clowns, too.
Most people do.
Looks like an old farmhouse.
I agree with trout. That doll is creepy looking. How any kid could ever like things like that...
It is an old farmhouse - used to have more outbuildings. They are trying to set up a paranormal research center there. They do run a 24 hr. live video stream.
I use to watch weird vids on youtube. One was a guy that decided to check out an old haunted house in the woods at night.
The house was kinda ho-hum but what scared the bejeebus out of me was when he went outside, he saw what looked like a man just standing still a little distance away just watching him.
Freaked him out too. He hauled ass outta there.
I love videos like that. I love the guy around the corner waiting as you round it. Look out the window and face looking in - that is what I love. The scares. I am a huge horror fan, but am so disappointed in most horror movies offered today - too much blood, brains & guts... I don't find that scary I find it gross.
I will have to search youtube for that vid.
I do too. There was actually a bunch of vids like that. A lot of people would go out and explore certain places.
If I remember correctly the vid I spoke of above might have been an old campground.
I don't get scared by much anymore. It is great though when I watch something and it can send a chill up my spine.
I love that feeling.
Did I ever tell you the story of the Haunted Outhouse, Veronica?
I don't think I ever heard it...
No, you have not.
When I was a kid, which was BC, we didn't have indoor plumbing so at night the old coffee can by the back door was the ''plumbing''. If you had to do anything other than pee it was around 50 yards through the timber to the outhouse. Since we lived in an area that had plenty of black bears and wolves one had to be a bit careful. The outhouse door was always swinging open because of the wind and we could hear it banging at night and we always knew it was the Windigo checking for human prey in the outhouse.
Well one fall evening we could hear the wolves howling and that would send shivers down our spine but it was off to bed. The three brothers, me, Drum Beater my youngest brother, Dolt, and our cousin Luther Walks the Horse was sleeping in one bedroom. In the middle of the night, Luther woke us up telling us that he had to do number 2. Well, that presented a problem the only way to do number 2 was to get to the outhouse, 50 yards through the super dark timber with wolves and bears between us and the outhouse, once he was at the outhouse there was the Windigo waiting. Or course the door was slamming open and shut in the wind.
Luther wanted us to run to the outhouse with him but blood only goes so far when it comes to haunted outhouses. So finally with puckered butt Luther headed into the abyss. We waited and waited but Luther never came back. What got him the wolves or the Windigo. We all snuck out of bed at sunrise and headed up the path to the outhouse ready to bolt at the slightest movement, noise, or just because we were scared shitless.
Arriving at the outhouse the door was shut and a branch from a poplar tree was leaning against it. Slowly we removed the branch and opened the door expecting the worst. There was Luther sitting on the pot sound asleep. When he was finished doing his duty and pushed on the outhouse door to open it the tree branch made it hard to open and with the scrapping of the branches on the door Luther knew without a doubt that the Windigo was out there. Luther decided to wait it out locked in the outhouse and like any abnormal kid, he fell asleep.
The moral of the story is it's better to be scared shitless than making a run for a haunted outhouse.
Another adventure of the Rez Boys.
Now that was entertaining. I don't know if I would have had the nerve to do that.... That was one of the reasons I hated camping. Having to head into the woods to do my business. I don't mind doing it outside - it is "the in the dark with who knows what watching" that always got me.
That doll IS creepy!
I dig the photos of the white "blob" in the window!
