256 Shades … So Much from so Few!
Technically, there are 256 shades of tone between pure white and solid black on what is referred to as the "GRAYSCALE" -- that as opposed to millions of colors (including "tints" -- color with added white, and "shades" -- color with added black -- not to mention those grayed/neutral colors made by mixing pigments of spectral opposites).
What is intriguing about grayscale (a.k.a. "black and white") images, is the power and emotion they often evoke sans color!
For my grayscale images, I always take them in color then desaturate them incrementally until they are completely, or, 90-95% grayscale (a topic for another article).
