House Election 2024: Live Updates

November 8, 2024, 11:29 EST -- E day + 2 -- The voters have already decided who will control the House. We just don't know the result yet. And there may yet be run off elections before the country knows for sure. Why are so many California races still in question at this time?
Democrats wanted to flip four Republican seats and succeeded in flipping five. But Republicans have flipped six seats so Democrats are still in the hole. It is beginning to appear unlikely that Democrats can take control of the House.
Not to worry. Republican infighting over Mike Johnson remaining as Speaker appears to brewing the background. Republican unity hasn't coalesced so we can look forward to Democrat sniping from the peanut gallery. We could have weeks of election coverage yet to go.

Voters across the country will decide which party controls the U.S. House. A party must hold 218 seats to secure the majority. Currently, Republicans hold a narrow majority in the chamber. There are currently 220 Republicans, 212 Democrats and three vacancies. The razor-thin majority for Republicans has caused havoc in the chamber because a small number of conservatives have been able to bring operations to a halt and ousted the speaker in 2023. Democrats are hoping to ride higher turnout in the presidential election to regain control.
