Chicago residents speak out against amount of resources going to migrants | Just The News

The Chicago City Council and Mayor Brandon Johnson heard Wednesday from Chicago residents upset about the influx of migrants in their communities and the resources that have been allocated to assist them.
Chicago started moving some of the foreign nationals buses from the southern border to other communities throughout the city. However, some believe not enough is being done to help those who've been lived in those neighborhoods for generations.
Last month the Chicago city council appropriated $51 million for migrant services. The money come from opioid and vaping settlement funds. However, it is only expected to last a few months.
More than 10,000 migrants have arrived in Chicago over the past nine months from the southern border.
On Wednesday, residents of Chicago attended the meeting, and several used their time to speak out against the financial resources for the migrants.
George Blakemore voiced his frustration with the handling of the situation by the city council.
"Can't you see what is going on here, with these illegal immigrants and our so-called elected officials who vote against our interests," Blakemoore said. "We are not going to tell them [migrants] to go. Maybe some of you all need to go."
Last week, state Rep. La Shawn Ford, D-Chicago, said current city residents feel underserved.
"What people are feeling is that the people who have been in these neighborhoods for generations, they have been treated inhumanely by the same government that is making efforts to provide good care to the asylum seekers," Ford told The Center Square.
Jessica Jackson told the council that she and others feel tricked by the handling of the migrant situation.
"In the words of Malcolm X, we have been hoodwinked, run amuck, bamboozled, by sitting here thinking that these Black politicians are helping us," Jackson said.
Gov. J.B. Pritzker has sought the help of the federal government to provide resources for Chicago and the migrants, which includes jobs.
"I have been imploring the White House and the federal government to do two things. One is we need comprehensive immigration reform," Pritzker said. "In the meantime, we ought to be allowing at least the asylum seekers that came here in the latter half of last year to now get work permits. We have jobs available for them."
The state government will also provide $43 million in taxpayer funding to care for the migrants as a part of its fiscal 2024 budget.

If the federal government were doing their jobs then Chicago wouldn't be in this predicament.
Didn't Chicago residents vote to declare their city a migrant sanctuary?
I don't know if the residents voted for it but I'm pretty sure the Democrat leadership made the declaration as a virtue signal that is now come back to bite them in the ass.
They didn't. That, I believe, was sarcasm LOL
I can't imagine somebody being dumb enough to vote for all that. But then again, there are Democrats.
" $51 million for migrant services."
costs a lot to feed those feral cats
Illinois’s free health care for illegals went something like a billion dollars over budget it’s first year. Tack on paying rent for illegals and it’s no wonder the high and soon to be higher tax burden causes actual citizens flee the state in such numbers.
And we are supposed to believe what the democrats and the left tell us that these illegals aren't a burden on the taxpayer.
“…that these illegals aren't a burden on the taxpayer.”
Remember that the next time you enjoy going to the store and having a plethora of harvested choices, or a meal out, or having your sheets laundered during your vacation, or appreciating a manicured neighborhood, not to forget those in construction that built the homes in that neighborhood.
The laws for employer hiring are not being enforced. Start there if you have a gripe…it has been a wink, wink, nod, nod for decades. As always, it is all about the money.
So it sounds like you are saying the taxpayers are going to pay one way or the other. Which way is cheaper for the taxpayer? How many of the people that pick fruits and vegetables are actually illegals as opposed to immigrants here legally or anyone else that is legal? There are actual known costs associated with "taking care of" illegals. So if you want to continue to promote your narrative how about some figures?
Democrats using the same excuses to justify illegals that they used to try to keep their slaves, just change the product from fruits and vegetables to cotton and tobacco and their justification for their positions are the same.
How racist of you to assume that all illegals work in the agricultural field.
I know of at least 50 that will take any work that pays cash outside of Home Depot. They will do electrical work, plastering/dry wall, building decks, painting, hanging lights, carpeting, etc. None of them are certified, so anyone hiring them is taking a chance. Results from people using them have varied greatly in my neighborhood; which is now mostly leftist and supports illegal immigrants.
Wow blatant stereotyping........................with a dash of racism?
Substitute ‘capitalist’ for ‘democrat’ and you may have a point.
Wow, stirred up a hornets nest.
And I did mention construction by the way.
So you don’t want accurate history taught? There were thousands of capitalists in the north, far more than the south. But democrats had slaves.
Just how many illegal immigrants do you think the US needs to fill all these positions you mentioned? And why are there still jobs open with the record setting amount of illegal immigrants Brandon has let in over the last 2 years?
Blatant racism should be called out whenever it shows itself.
We're reminded of that daily in the form of taxes and lack of support for our own citizens.
That can happen when someone makes ignorant statements that they can't seem to support with facts.
It would be bad if there was nobody to harvest all the orchards and fields in Chicago
