The Left's war against the Supreme Court

The Left is throwing yet another temper tantrum. This time, their anger and hatred are being aimed at the Supreme Court .

It's easy to see why. From overturning Roe v. Wade, ending legal discrimination in college admissions, to affirming free speech rights by saying religious creatives cannot be forced to publish messages they feel violate their religious beliefs, and telling President Joe Biden that he cannot simply wave a magic wand and forgive student debt , the Supreme Court has become a major roadblock for the Left's agenda. To remove it, the Left has decided to smear the Supreme Court as illegitimate.

In a poorly written opinion piece in the Los Angeles Times, Harvard professor Michel Lamont argues that the aforementioned decisions "deprive relatively disadvantaged groups — women, black and brown Americans, LGBTQ+ people, and lower-income college students — of legal and other resources that improve their welfare as well as their sense of belonging. More than just 'who gets what,' the court's rulings affect who feels recognized as a worthy member of our society."

Let's unpack this one decision at a time, shall we? First, the Dobbs decision did not outlaw abortion. It returned the decision about abortion back to the states, where it belongs.

There is no constitutional right to an abortion, as even leftist scholars know. The late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, for example, disliked Roe v. Wade, calling it a "faulty decision." She believed that the decision was too far-reaching and too sweeping, giving pro-life activists a very tangible target to rally against. She said, "My criticism of Roe is that it seemed to have stopped the momentum on the side of change. Roe isn't really about the woman's choice, is it? It's about the doctor's freedom to practice … it wasn't woman-centered, it was physician-centered."

Moving to affirmative action, stating that people of color deserve to be admitted to a college or university with scores lower than people who are not admitted is, in and of itself, racist. Admission to college should be based on merit, not on an effort to make the campus look like a 1980s era ad for Benetton clothing.

Speaking of college, the president seems hell-bent on forcing working Americans to pay the bills of college graduates. Biden's use of the HEROES Act, a 2003 law that says the government can provide relief when there is a national emergency, allowing it to act to ensure people are not in a worse position financially as a result of the emergency, was blatantly illegal. This act was written to protect military reservists who were called to active duty and could no longer pay their loans, as their military pay did not equal what they were making in the private sector. It was not designed to help petulant children who took out loans thinking they wouldn't have to repay them.

Lastly, the court's decision to side with Lorie Smith in 303 Creative was a common sense ruling that all Americans should support. The government should not be able to compel citizens' speech, period.

The Left has tried to distort this decision and claim that the ruling allows businesses to refuse service to customers based on their attributes. That's not what the case was about. But even if it were, the Left seems not to have a problem with private businesses choosing to service the customers they want to service when businesses refuse to serve conservatives, as happened to Sarah Huckabee Sanders in the great Red Hen Restaurant controversy of 2018.

The solution in this case is simple. If you think the court's ruling is unfair, open a bakery, and refuse to serve Catholics looking for a cake to celebrate a first communion or a baptism. Make as many pro-LGBTQIA+ cakes as you want. Let the market decide.

The Left will continue to rant and rave, as they always do. They will threaten to pack the court, force the retirement of judges, or try to impeach judges — all because the Supreme Court refused to let them ham-handedly force their agenda onto the rest of the country.

First, the Dobbs decision did not outlaw abortion.

It is amazing how many people can't grasp that.

Moving to affirmative action, stating that people of color deserve to be admitted to a college or university with scores lower than people who are not admitted is, in and of itself, racist.

And again, the number of people who can't grasp this is unbelievable.

Speaking of college, the president seems hell-bent on forcing working Americans to pay the bills of college graduates

There is a solution to this problem.  If you have taken out a loan, get a job and repay the loan.

The government should not be able to compel citizens' speech, period.

But yet, we see it happening everyday.  And when it doesn't go the way they want, the left breaks down in a tantrum.

This is yet another important article for our readers to see.

[Deleted]  We were blessed with a Great Republic. It was once called a Great Experiment. Many often asked how long it would last?

We may have the answer. I want to say 244 years.

Even the Atlantic weighed in about how silly and histrionic the attacks are:

Multiple majority decisions featured GOP-appointed justices ruling against the actions of GOP legislators. The Court generally ruled in ways that were consistent with the popular will, not at odds with it. ( Polls aggregated by The New York Times suggest that just one ruling strayed significantly from public opinion––a case that recognized the Environmental Protection Agency’s statutory jurisdiction over permanent bodies of water while ruling that the Clean Water Act does not give it jurisdiction over wetlands.) As for ideology, the Court’s judicial reasoning and outcomes alike suggest majorities that are more informed by small- l liberal values than the “right wing” or “extremist” values some antagonists allege. The justices safeguarded election integrity and voting rights in decisions that many Democrats cheered. And in two of the decisions that progressives complained about most, the Court stopped two powerful institutions from flagrantly discriminating against a racial-minority group and reined in a president who willfully exceeded his lawful authority by forgiving debt in a way that transferred wealth , overall, from poorer Americans to richer Americans.

When the left controlled the court then the left defended the court.  Now that the rights appears to control the court, the right has begun defending the court.  Nothing too surprising about the politics.

Pay attention to the difference, though.  The left relied upon court decisions being settled law so the left had to retain control of the court.  The right uses court decisions as an opportunity to enact legislation that will guide future courts.  The left embraces a totalitarian method of governing while the right relies on democracy as intended.

Does that explain why the left always tries to trash the Constitution?

We've seen totalitarianism repeatedly rearing its ugly head in many areas of our constitutional republic for many, many years. Obama said the quiet part out loud in October 2008 when he said, "We are five days away from fundamentally transforming the United States of America".

And nobody thought their "transforming" actually meant wrecking.

Seems it is the supremes that are at war against America.

It's way past time for term limits and elections.

You are implying the left is the "supreme"?  That's fucking hilarious.

Interesting chart demonstrating the "crises" is entirely among Democrats. Republican and Independents view of the Court hasn't changed much in 20 years and is trending up.

There’s no war against the Court.

They will threaten to pack the court, force the retirement of judges, or try to impeach judges

Ok, but none of that is actually happening. There is no legislation to increase the size of the Court. No one is being forced to retire. No one is being impeached.

There should be ethical reform however. There is nothing unreasonable about requiring Supreme Court justices to abide by the same ethical rules they had to abide by when they were Circuit and District judges.
