Two NYPD cops shot in Queens by 19-year-old migrant: sources

A 19-year-old Venezuelan migrant shot two cops early Monday when they tried to stop him as he was riding a motorized scooter, according to police and sources.
The officers had tried to pull over the teen, identified as Bernardo Castro Mata, after spotting him driving the wrong way down a street at 89th Street and 23rd Avenue in Elmhurst at about 1:40 a.m., police said.
The suspect quickly ditched the moped and fled on foot for several blocks, according to cops.

During the pursuit, the teen allegedly pulled out an illegal gun and fired multiple rounds at the officers.
One of the officers took a bullet to the leg while the other was struck in the front of his bulletproof vest.
At least one of the officers returned fire and struck the alleged perp in the ankle.
The teen has no criminal history in the Big Apple, but is a suspect in several "snatch and grab" robbery investigations in Queens — including one in which a woman was allegedly attacked and had her credit cards stolen, police said.
He has been living at the migrant shelter in the former Courtyard Marriott Hotel near LaGuardia Airport, NYPD Commissioner Edward Caban said.
It wasn't immediately clear how long he'd been in the Big Apple, but law enforcement sources told The Post he entered the US via Eagle Pass, Texas, at some point last year.
He was taken to NewYork-Presbyterian Queens to undergo surgery.
The two injured cops were in "good spirits" and both were in stable condition after being treated at Elmhurst General Hospital, Caban said.
"This could have gone a very different way," the police commish told an early morning press conference.
Showing off the bullet hole in one of officer's vest, Mayor Eric Adams praised the two cops.

"Because of this vest, a young police officer is going home," Hizzoner said.
"A senseless act of violence. Total disregard for life," he added as he addressed the incident.
"Our officers responded with a level of discipline, a level of focus, a level of professionalism. Today we thank God."
The officers were both assigned to 115th Precinct's public safety unit. One has been on the job for five years, while his partner joined the NYPD ranks two and a half years ago.

A handful of several "snatch and grab" robberies and 2 Law Enforcement officers shot by an illegal with an illegal weapon. All as a result of Traitor Joe's and Eric Adam's shitty policies.
Is this what the left means when they say Biden is doing fine?
A police chase and shootout over a traffic violation on a moped. New York really is deadly serious about misdemeanor crime. But, I guess, every crime in New York is a felony for the wrong people, in the wrong place, at the wrong time. Sounds like Democrat justice.
While it's easy to pick the low hanging fruit of illegal immigration, the story really does provide fodder for a broader indictment of law enforcement in the Big Apple. Alvin Bragg could prosecute this crime as a capital offence simply because the perp is the wrong person, in the wrong place, at the wrong time. These cops took a bullet for uneven, overreactive, unhinged, partisan criminal justice in New York. Is it any wonder that Mayor Adams has liberal with his praise?
“While it's easy to pick the low hanging fruit of illegal immigration,…”
There you go. Ignoring the decades old inability to address the problem and make it somehow topical.
Our open border has been a blessing for Venezuela.
I know we sometimes focus too much on which exact word to use, but I kind of object to calling people like this “migrants.” This guy isn’t a migrant. He’s a predator of his own species (cannibal) in a new hunting ground; a wandering criminal. People and animals migrate to survive or build a better life. There are so many better words we could use to describe a POS like this.
He is someplace he shouldn't have been, which makes the crime much more egregious. It was preventable.
And those charged with ensuring this doesn't happen will never see the inside of a courtroom.
So this illegal that shot to police officers had his immigration case dismissed by a Chicago Judge.
As I stated before. This all on Traitor Joe, Eric Adams and their shitty policies.
