FYI: "The catbird seat" is an American English idiomatic phrase used to describe an enviable position, often in terms of having the upper hand or greater advantage in any type of dealing among parties. The phrase derives from the common catbird's habit of making mocking calls from a secluded perch.
We get catbirds every year but this year they are especially plentiful, whereas the goldfinches have all but disappeared. Seems like there is never a catbird never more than ten feet away perched up above giving you the eye, as if to say “who invited you here?”
Great photos of every day people having great fun. Thanks for sharing them with us. It brings back memories of yester years for me as well. I loved the Fairs and carnivals that came to town each summer.
Those are both very beautiful, G, and so very well presented. You have come a long way in your artwork, and I truly appreciate your ever growing hard work and the excellent results.
Love the soft sweet colours of the Nanjing bridge photo - the people there deserve to live with such beauty, having suffered such great atrocities. My bridge photo, taken in the gardens behind a museum in Nanning, in Guanxi Region, is not so soft...
Thanks G. My Parents had an Indian motorcycle when I was very young. And it was the color of this one. It was the only transportation we had at the time, so my Brother ride on the gas tank, then my Father, then me between him and my Mother in the back. My mother taught me how to sway with the turns to keep the motorcycle from falling over. It was great fun. And this artwork brought back so many memories.
That's a real beauty, Kavia. The one my Parents had was a 1947 Indian Chief Roadmaster. My Father bought it from a dealer who was going out of business at a very low price. It had a buddy seat as well. It was painted a Baby Doll blue, so of course my Mother had to give it a name so she called ride 'Baby Doll'.
Wait a sec, as I've been saying for a while my vision has been waning, and now I'm not sure if what I said was a little Indian isn't the bike's seat, but isn't that a little head and hat at the back of the seat? I'm confused.
When I first looked at the seat it looked to me like a little person leaning backwards - what appeared to me was the seat was a body topped by a pink face with a blue hat, which is why I said a little Indian riding a big Indian. As I said, my vision is waning.
I admit it is very busy, and I am glad that you were able to see things a little clearer with the enlargement. I was really confused by your 'little Indian" term. (smile)
But, considering that my vision is not as good as it was, can anyone interpret the seat to what I thought I saw? To me it looked like a person leaning backward and holding on to the sides of the seat.
I don't know about anyone else, but I don't have anything to post at the moment. Maybe I will before the weekend is out.
I'm actually a little sick. Feels like a chest cold. Hope it's not a breakthrough Covid case. I'm fully vaccinated, but I'm also in an area experiencing a big delta variant outbreak.
Thanks guys. I don't feel all that bad. I just have a cough that won't quit, the kind that makes it hard to sleep. Congestion, too.
I took a home covid test this morning and it was negative, so that's good. Guess I just picked up a standard chest cold somewhere. Probably grocery shopping a few days ago.
Funny how I always seem to get colds in the summer and never in the winter like a normal person.
I was slow to come to the table for the same reason - just have photos I've posted previously. Hope you didn't get a reinfection - been reading that the delta variant is still affecting vaxed people.
Good one RW. The Ojibwe word for warrior is ogichidaa. Actually, it's more complex since Ojibwe is a pictorial language to fluent speakers it translates to ''He who stands between evil and the people''.
Years ago I'd sometimes see turkey vultures early in the mornings while fishing on the Osage River, atop dead trees with their wings stretched out straight. Just sitting there like that. I guess they were drying the dew off their wings. Always reminded me of totem poles.
We had hundreds of turkey vultures around Table Rock Lake, Dig.
We had this huge dead tree on our property and a dozen or more would be sitting on the limbs with their wing spread out drying them off. It always looks spooky as well, especially in the evening as the sun was setting.
Those are great photos, Dig. The purple butterfly is awesome. I get those kind of 'shroom looking growths in my yard area now and then. I have to dig them out by the roots so they won't come back. They make the place look awful. But, now I pour ammonia on them and that kills them down to the root and Voila! They are gone and don't come back.
Morning Raven...I pour boiling water on weed's here and kills them in seconds.. they turn black almost instantly especially the flat weeds in grass etc..not sure if it would work on the one's you are referring to..I have a few puff balls in my front yard...will have to give it a fling and see what it does..
I apply the ammonia with a small eye dropper right on the roots of the 'shrooms and they shrivel up and die within minutes. I tried dropping the ammonia on the caps themselves, but, that did not work all that well. So I tried dropping the ammonia around the roots and they were 'toast' in seconds.
WOW Mac! That is astounding! Layers on top of layers from the way it looks. That will be a great seller for sure! And it will be an awesome addition to your upcoming artwork exhibit. I myself have never seen anything like it. I am just totally blown away.
The technique you are using for this painting could be one of a kind. You could also combine it with other techniques to provide even more unique paintings.
Busch Gardens. While I was waiting for a few family members to return from this ride because the lines were long and it was dreadfully hot, I kept trying to snap a good photo of this spot. It’s hard because the ride moves so fast that it took several tries. When I finally got it just right I zoomed in and there they were right in the front row, so it worked out especially well.
That really is awesome, Kavika. The lone tree, the couple enjoying the sunset sitting by the lake, and the beautiful reflection of the setting sun and clouds on the lake. Very serene and peaceful.
This group is my primary reason for coming to NT now. Sharing and learning from others, and enjoying the wide variety of artwork and other items of interest. Gives me something to look forward to and work towards.

Show your stuff! It's that time again.
yay! another weekend art show!
Did you have to bird dog that information?
No. I Googled on-(fe)line.
We get catbirds every year but this year they are especially plentiful, whereas the goldfinches have all but disappeared. Seems like there is never a catbird never more than ten feet away perched up above giving you the eye, as if to say “who invited you here?”
The catbirds (and/or its offspring) posted above, have returned to my backyard every May 1st, for the last 5 or more years. It's uncanny.
Some summer fair fun from 2017. The fair here returns next week so I'm hoping I can get down there for new photos with my newer camera and lenses.
Great photos of every day people having great fun. Thanks for sharing them with us. It brings back memories of yester years for me as well. I loved the Fairs and carnivals that came to town each summer.
Those are really great photos, EG.
A well photographed, beautiful photo essay.
Very nice group of photos.
Any idea as to where everyone is today?

Those are both very beautiful, G, and so very well presented. You have come a long way in your artwork, and I truly appreciate your ever growing hard work and the excellent results.
Very well done!
Thank you so much, Raven Wing! I am really glad that you like them.
Very fine work on both images
Thank you! I appreciate your comment very much.
You're getting really creative with colors. Pretty darn neat.
Thanks, Dig
Love the soft sweet colours of the Nanjing bridge photo - the people there deserve to live with such beauty, having suffered such great atrocities. My bridge photo, taken in the gardens behind a museum in Nanning, in Guanxi Region, is not so soft...
That's a great photo, Buzz.
It's Friday again. and this is just for fun....
That is a cool image, Raven Wing!

We have lots of vroom on the thread for such fine imagery.
Thanks, Mac. I thought a bit of fun might help lift the mood from the FP. And I had fun as well. (grin)
Good one RW, I had a 1949 Indian Chief that was fully restored to the original.
This is a photo of one exactly like the one I had.
Very cool bike and a good name. Mine had a name as well, ''Anishinaabe Animikii'' translate to Ojibwe Thunder.
That sounds like a very fitting name, Kavika. We got a lot of stares as we rode around on Baby Doll with the four of us on it.
A Thai friend of mine invited me to an event at his Thai temple here in L.A. about 3 years ago, and the local Thai biker club showed up!

A tribute to Indian Motorcycles played and sung by a real Indian Arvel Bird.
Great video, Kavika. Thanks for sharing.
Very interesting photo, G.
That's a real fun image - a little Indian riding a big Indian - looks like he's having trouble holding on.
Thank you Buzz.
Wait a sec, as I've been saying for a while my vision has been waning, and now I'm not sure if what I said was a little Indian isn't the bike's seat, but isn't that a little head and hat at the back of the seat? I'm confused.
Not sure what you are referencing, Buzz. I'll blow it up a bit for you and hope you will be able to discern the image more clearly.....
The only thing on the back of the seat is a butterfly. Hopefully, you will be better able to see things more clearly.
And this one is for entertainment............
Yep, very entertaining - in fact a real mystery.
I did some editing of the original image just to try something different.
Still wondering where everyone is.
Probably tired of yelling and screaming about politics. I know I am...Haha
Great pic by the way.
Feel better, Dig!
Lots of liquids and lots of rest. That's the preliminary prescription.
Be careful Dig, and take good care of your health. I hope you don't have any throwbacks.
I may have a pic soon. The rose that was supposed to be the mint julep has two buds on it.
I will find out what it is and looks like. Haha
Hope you feel better.
Do you have vitamin c, d3 and zinc ?
Very good advice Pat. I take all 3 regularly and I haven't had a cold in years. (knock on wood)
I think I have some c and zinc, and a multi. I forgot about vitamins. I'll go take some.
I was slow to come to the table for the same reason - just have photos I've posted previously. Hope you didn't get a reinfection - been reading that the delta variant is still affecting vaxed people.
As Friday is winding down, something to lead us into Saturday.....
Dreams and Transformation
Very well said, Pat. Butterflies enjoying a Dream Catcher. (smile)
Beautiful image, Raven Wing.
Thank you very much, G.
Interesting image - tickles the imagination.
Thank you Buzz.
Saturday is here again....
An Ojibwe Warrior and his Spirit Guide to watch over him.
Good one RW. The Ojibwe word for warrior is ogichidaa. Actually, it's more complex since Ojibwe is a pictorial language to fluent speakers it translates to ''He who stands between evil and the people''.
Thank you Kavika. That is a great term for Ojibwe Warriors.
Very cool. I like the Ojibwe translation, also.
Thanks G.
Nice picture. I think I could use a Spirit Guide these days.
Thanks Buzz....and I am glad that my Spirit Guide is keeping an eye on me. (grin)
Cypress knees on the Rainbow River.
Very impressive, Kavika. Great the way they reflect in the water. Reminds me of the Cypress knees in the Corkscrew near Ft Meyers FL.
What I like most about Cyprus, is how they resemble KKK members drowning … but that's just me.
Lol.
LOL! Now that you mention it..... (big grin)
Nice concept.
Interesting photo, Kavika.
They look a little like ghost images risen from the water.
A vulture condo on the Rainbow River.
Looks like they are standing watch for lunch. That's a very pretty area too. But, I can see where it would be a great Vulture condo.
Years ago I'd sometimes see turkey vultures early in the mornings while fishing on the Osage River, atop dead trees with their wings stretched out straight. Just sitting there like that. I guess they were drying the dew off their wings. Always reminded me of totem poles.

Yeah! Cool.
That is a great photo, Kavika.
A Florida condo that doesn't look like it will collapse any time soon.
A red-spotted purple butterfly. Ventral coloration.
Same butterfly. Dorsal coloration. I don't know why they're called red-spotted purples. Orange-spotted blues would make more sense, right?
Blue dasher dragonfly.
Another view.
Bullfrog, with a dragonfly on a blade of grass in the upper left.
A giant puffball mushroom. On the smaller side, but I suppose it could still be growing.
The dragonfly best be careful or that bullfrog will have him for lunch.
The can of soup and the mushroom, you've become NT own Andy Warhol.
Those are great photos, Dig. The purple butterfly is awesome. I get those kind of 'shroom looking growths in my yard area now and then. I have to dig them out by the roots so they won't come back. I have no trouble growing mushrooms in my garden, but growing the cans is a bitch!
We use to stomp on those as kids. Would release a cloud.
Wonderful photos, as always, Dig.
Mushroom soup photo made me burst out laughing. Great shots of the insects above and I can almost hear that bullfrog croak.
I believe I have a painting motif I can sort of call "my own".

Wow, that's different. I like it.
I would say that the word "unique" would apply. For some reason made me think of a praying mantis.
that's a great piece amac.
Peek A Boo
Morning...what a cuttie..
That turtle (tortoise?) has beautiful markings.
It's an Easter Box Turtle, G.
Great! Thanks for the info, Kavika.
No soup today.
Looks like that turtlay is having itself a knuckle sandwich. (grin)
Heading into Sunday....
One of my favorites.
I really like it too.
Thanks Kavika.
Thank you dev.
A dancer? Beautiful image.
Thank you Buzz. Mother and Daughter dancing at one of the outdoor POW WOW's.

Rate that a "GREAT" photo! Absolutely GREAT!!!
As Mac says, a great photo, Hal, and amazing timing!. That looks like fun!
WOW!!! an absolutely FANTASTIC shot. Could be used by Busch Gardens for a promotional poster.
Last night's sunset on Arlington lake in our community, Stone Creek, Ocala FL.
Perfection!
That really is awesome, Kavika. The lone tree, the couple enjoying the sunset sitting by the lake, and the beautiful reflection of the setting sun and clouds on the lake. Very serene and peaceful.
Great sky, reflection, silhouettes - superb photo.
Amazing photo, Kavika.
A second painting in my new motif … gold leaf kicks ass IMO!

Another beauty, Mac. Softer colors, but, every bit as awesome.
Match it to Bob Dylan's "A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall".
Sunday comes too soon.....A Mayan Quetzal Bird.
The continuing saga of the disappearing comment:
A very striking image.
Thank you , Buzz.
Spectacular image, Raven Wing.
Thanks G.
As Sunday's end draws near, here is one more......
A magnificent image!
Thank you Mac. I'm glad you like it.
Beauty in the eye of this beholder.
Thanks Buzz.
That is very beautiful.
Thank you G.
Still some Sunday left; I'll close it down tomorrow before noon.
Thanks to all for making the Group special and outstanding!
I bow to you. Thank you for doing this every week.
Please, don't bow, rather, stand tall for being a part of this outstanding GROUP of people.
See everyone this coming Friday.
This group is my primary reason for coming to NT now. Sharing and learning from others, and enjoying the wide variety of artwork and other items of interest. Gives me something to look forward to and work towards.
