Ink paintings of Peking Opera figures shown online in Sydney
A virtual exhibition of ink paintings, featuring figures from Peking Opera, was launched by the China Cultural Center in Sydney and painter Zhu Gang's Studio on Dec 9.
The show is accessible at the center's website and social media platforms.
As the essence of traditional arts, Chinese operas have a large group of followers. The design of opera figures often conveys the unique personalities in an extravagant and romantic way.
The exhibition features 50 ink works by Zhu Gang, who specializes in painting opera figures.

It is said that one does not know China unless they have done 3 things - walk on The Great Wall, eat Peking Duck, and watch the Peking Opera. 15 years ago I did all three, and here is a photo that I took at that time.
The music being played during the performance was deafening, and fortunately at that particular theatre, which I assume must have hosted many foreigners, there was a caption screen at the top of the stage translating the singing into English.
Have seen the Chinese opera...not really my cup of tea.... not eaten Peking duck but looks good in restaurants and doubt I will be hoofing it along the Great Wall anytime soon...
So I guess I know China just a little bit..
The Peking Opera is bearable as long as you're wearing earplugs. Visually it's interesting to watch, but once is enough for a foreigner.
On that I totally agree .. once was enough..
Hoo roo (bye) for now off to bed..
The last time I went to an opera I caused an international incident. It was in Sydney at the Sydney Opera House.
That was a story nobody could possibly forget, especially the woman sitting next to you.
Very true, Buzz. A story only Kavika could write. And I still enjoy reading that story.
ha ha ha, I love that story.
Will post the link to this on the Three Day Weekend article to assure it receives the attention it deserves.
