Winter on the Red Lake Ojibwe reservation, Red Lake MN.
Building an ice road on the lake which is huge, 427 sq miles.
I've fished the lake many times but actually preferred fishing Rivière du Lac Rouge (Red Lake River) there are many French names in the area as many Ojibwe can and do speak French and or Metis in additon to Ojibwe and English.
Chinese New Year's Eve is only 3 days from now, so here is a bit from an article I will be pasting on the Discovery Group soon, along with 10 photos I took of the TV gala a few years ago. To borrow an expression used by a TV show in America, it is China's "Show of Shows":
CCTV New Year's Gala
The CCTV New Year's Gala, also known as the Spring Festival Gala, is commonly abbreviated in Chinese as Chunwan (春晚 chūn wǎn). This gala is an entertainment show with a combination of modern media and folk customs, which is broadcast live to the world by China Central Television (CCTV) on every Chinese New Year's Eve.
CCTV New Year's Gala is a must-see TV show on Chinese New Year's eve for every Chinese family. Believe it or not, it has the largest audience of any entertainment show in the world. The 2020 edition of the Gala attracted over 1.2 billion viewers.
The 2022 CCTV New Year's Gala will be broadcast at 8 pm, January 31st, 2022.
BUZZ NOTE: That is Chinese time, and since America is about half a day behind, it should be seen there at 8 a.m. EST that morning (unless it is recorded and shown later at 8 p.m.)
We never get snow, but we do have ornamental pears in bloom. That's how we know it's winter. I just took these photos in my backyard a few minutes ago.
Well, maybe, but for me the glistening crystal paradise caused by a winter's freezing rain on tree branches on a cold sunny day is more intensely beautiful.
Wonderful memories. These may be the first I've posted of Vietnam. I'm not certain at the moment. I have been to 22 -23 countries that I can remember right now, some more than once. Three times in France, twice in England, twice in Spain. A few times in Mexico when I was young. I went to Malaysian Borneo on the same trip that I went to the rest of Malaysia, but Borneo is separated from the rest of the country. I didn't include the multiple visits or Borneo in my count. I stopped over in the airports in a couple of others for a few hours or so, but didn't visit the country, so those don't count. I've been to Hawaii many times, and although it is the U.S. it is certainly not like the rest of the country. Some of the Hawaiians would like to be independent. Oh, and I've been to Texas a couple of times. That counts (didn't add it to my number).
Texas. LOL. Well, if Texas and Hawaii are different countries, I've been to 19. Most of them a long time ago, so my photos were on film and I only brought a few with me. I used Kodachrome for Hawaii, Spain, Gibraltar and Morocco and all those colour slides are back in storage in Toronto.
I saw that this one was locked and I knew it shouldn't have been so I unlocked it. Then I saw that many of them were, so I wrote Perrie about it but no reply yet. I didn't want to unlock any others without permission of those who posted them. Do you want me to unlock yours?
I didn't want a normal birthday cake for my 85th, so I asked for a variety - that way I got chocolate, vanilla, cheesecake, cocoa, and strawberry shortcake. We didn't want to burn the house down so only one candle.
That looks great... nice selection...I was looking forward to seeing 85 candles on a cake... Don't see that very often... happy birthday for the other day...
Thanks, Shona1. Yep, I just keep on keepin' on. There's no way my wish would come true which is only supposed to happen if you can blow out all the candles with one breath - no way I could blow out 85 of them with one breath.
You know, it is strange isn't it? But when a person gets to be my age and can still count to 10 it's not a bad thing, but in fact perhaps something for which to be grateful, and proud, certainly not ashamed.
OK guys, cold and snowy is nice and all, but I've suddenly found myself in the mood for a little reminder of the glory days of summer.
Sometimes I forget how big the difference can be.

Hopefully that sends some warm cheer and good vibes to our members who are frozen solid up north, or about to endure the bomb cyclone in the northeast.
Thanks for the warm reminder. Although it's never cold enough to snow or cause ice to form where we are, the temperature has been between 5 and 11 degrees centigrade and the weather rainy and dreary most of the time lately.
Thanks, A.Mac. Think I consider Gracie to be one of the most beautiful dogs I've ever seen (and I'll bet has a personality to match), seeing her face is a real gift - a much appreciated start to my day.
Yeah, take people with mental health problems to see that building every day....
LOL. I can't believe something like that was actually built. Looks like a super inefficient use of materials. Exterior maintenance is probably a nightmare, too. Sheesh.
Thank you Raven. Actually, my birthday was little different than any other day these days because for me now every day is a holiday. However, there was the cake, but I didn't get the pizza until the next day.
Lord of the Flies? That was required reading when I went to school. And the Diary of Anne Frank? Banning that just proves she was wrong and that people are NOT good at heart. And oh, the IRONY of banning Fahrenheit 451.
First Thing First; Check this Creative Arts Article at the Link.
Thanks, A.Mac.
All my good snow photos were posted here quite recently so I'll come up with something different this time.

Evening...
Sunrise yesterday morning down the Bay....
Can always tell it is going to be a hot day..
This is not my photo..
Stunning.
Have a great week everyone.....
a very nice image and also well-proportioned appropriate frame.
Our Ice Festival starts here tomorrow. I haven't gone since 2017 way before I got the new camera.

A nice little bird house / feeder hanging from the pear tree, and is it warm enough to swim?
Thanks. It was very warm today, but the pool is probably really cold.
Looks lovely there today! We are getting a blizzard!
I heard that you could be in for a very big storm.
We had a sunny day with a few clouds. It was hot in the direct sun.
IMO, nothing quite as intensely beautiful, as a snow covered forest on a sunny afternoon.

13 frame image merge panorama. This is not a black and white image... It was just a very cold overcast day.
Yeah, the kind of day to sit watching and smelling logs burning in a fireplace.
I think black and white works best for winter landscapes.
Lazy old cat on a winter day.
He's got the right idea.
Since I can't possibly compete in the cold and snow category, here are some images from Vietnam. (Nice non-sequitur, eh?)
Great memories, I bet - first photos you've posted of Vietnam, I believe.. Out of curiosity, just how many different countries HAVE you visited?
Wonderful memories. These may be the first I've posted of Vietnam. I'm not certain at the moment. I have been to 22 -23 countries that I can remember right now, some more than once. I didn't count Hawaii either.
The photos of the girls is just lovely, as they are.
I think I've always thought that Asian girls were beautiful.
Thanks, Perrie.
Yup.
On the cold and snowy theme.
Brrrrrrr! The last one looks like a road less travelled, terrific example of leading lines. The one looking up at the tree tops is very spooky.
Beautiful start to the thread. Thanks to all & keep it going.
If you wanted us to keep it going, I think you accidentally locked it, so I unlocked it.
I noticed that on several other articles, including one of my own that I know I didn't lock. There must be something going on with the site.
Evening Dig... probably the Russians...
I saw that this one was locked and I knew it shouldn't have been so I unlocked it. Then I saw that many of them were, so I wrote Perrie about it but no reply yet. I didn't want to unlock any others without permission of those who posted them. Do you want me to unlock yours?
LOL.
I don't know how you could, but thanks anyway. I unlocked it myself when I noticed it.
I have certain mod powers that are required for me to be the site's spam police.
Ah. I didn't know that.
Thanks, don’t know how I did that.
You didn't. Perrie told me it was a glitch that locked multiple articles, but it's corrected now.
I didn't want a normal birthday cake for my 85th, so I asked for a variety - that way I got chocolate, vanilla, cheesecake, cocoa, and strawberry shortcake. We didn't want to burn the house down so only one candle.
Happy Birthday, Buzz!
Thanks, Dig.

too much asbestos required in the frosting...
HB buzz
Now that I think back at that, it would have been 86 candles. There was always an extra one for good luck.
Thanks, dev.
Are you sure you want to be reminded you're that OLD?
You know, it is strange isn't it? But when a person gets to be my age and can still count to 10 it's not a bad thing, but in fact perhaps something for which to be grateful, and proud, certainly not ashamed.
Happy Birthday, Buzz.
Thank you, my friend.
Oh, to be that age again.......thanks Ender.
Happy Birthday, Buzz, picture to follow after talking my dog into going out in the snow.

Wonderful photos, I thought that I was looking at photos of Florida in the dead of winter...
Thanks, good to see that. My garden is covered with snow, but I have tomato seedlings growing in the window sill and some are ready to transplant.
Thanks for the warm reminder. Although it's never cold enough to snow or cause ice to form where we are, the temperature has been between 5 and 11 degrees centigrade and the weather rainy and dreary most of the time lately.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BUZZ
Gracie (A. Mac's Dawg)
Now that's a cutie.
She's as sweet as she looks too!
Thanks, A.Mac. Think I consider Gracie to be one of the most beautiful dogs I've ever seen (and I'll bet has a personality to match), seeing her face is a real gift - a much appreciated start to my day.
I was reading an article about weird buildings. Would make a nice photo essay yet I am not going to copy and paste about 50 pics.
I saw this one and thought it was ironic.
The caption,
Yeah, take people with mental health problems to see that building every day....
They might consider it to be normal.
LOL. I can't believe something like that was actually built. Looks like a super inefficient use of materials. Exterior maintenance is probably a nightmare, too. Sheesh.
It looks like Berlin at the end of World War 2, or maybe Hiroshima.

How cute can you get?
Have a great week......stay safe......
very cool RW
Is that a bamboo background? Is that a holy person, and what is he holding?
Hi Buzz...taking a quick break to catch up a bit...
Happy Birthday!!! Hope you enjoyed your day!
She is a Healer. She is holding a smudge.
The background is a wood burl. One of my favorites.
Thank you Raven. Actually, my birthday was little different than any other day these days because for me now every day is a holiday. However, there was the cake, but I didn't get the pizza until the next day.

Hi everyone! I'm missing you all! Have a safe and healthy week!
Feelings are mutual, RW!
One more for Sunday; will keep the article open until tomorrow, early afternoon.

Of course ALL your photos are excellent, but THAT one is magnificent.
Absolutely spectacular...what a fantastic photo Mac... hope you and Mrs Mac are doing well and keep safe...
Thank You Shona, the same good wishes to you.
Wow
Winter in Texas. One thing refuses to die. In fact...I see one bloom and two buds.
What do they say have survived the ages?
Crocs, sharks, roaches and dandelions...
Good afternoon, or, good whatever time of day it is where you are.
Thanks to all; shutting down shortly; see you all Thursday night or Friday morning.
