Yes, I DO appreciate your focussing on the Disney World Canada Pavilion eevn though it makes Canada look like a frontier nation, LOL. Did you get to eat poutine in its restaurant?
I wonder if fish are capable of appreciating that they have been provided with a beautiful and comfortable home with all required sustenance and free from predators. Do you go down and spend time just watching them? I think people put an aquarium in their living rooms because they induce relaxation.
I don't know how you do it. Now I have had a complete algae bloom. I have never had this happen before. Unreal...My water has always been clear.
All the sudden the tank went poof. Couldn't even see an inch inside. I know it is algae as when I do water changes, even though it looks mucky and murky, what I dump is green in tint.
I have been doing water changes and cleaning near the edges where I could see. Finally getting a little deeper.
Weird thing is, I just had a fear that everything would be dead. I knew I had a couple of fish as I could see them swim by the side or come to the top for food. Yet surprisingly, they all seem to be there, living in the murk.
Getting clearer (slowly) but some of the plants seem to have even done better. One that never grew, from what I can see actually has new growth...
Go figure...It is almost like it is cycling, even though it is several years old. On a positive note, it seems to have killed off the black algae....
When getting help online for something like this the most asked questions are"
What are you water parameters? What test kit do you use to get them?
What is your maintenance schedule and how much water to you change?
What is your tank size?
What is your lighting like - make, duration, and intensity?
What's your fish stocking?
How much do you feed?
Algae is a imbalance somewhere usually having to do with light or excess nutrients (mainly phosphorus and nitrogen). The algae itself really doesn't bother the fish much. Plants use those excess nutrients from fish poop, uneaten food and fertilizers. Weekly water changes (I do about 50% in every tank) kind of reset the water column and do other things beyond the scope of this issue. Cleaning the substrate to remove the fish poop and uneaten fish food also keeps the tank water clean and looks better. Water test kits can look for nitrites, phosphorus and other things that may contribute to a lot of problem issues. Not all test kits look for all things. I have mid-range budget lights I can program for intensity and duration with a smart phone app.
I've forayed into fish tanks a few times, but the ongoing maintenance was brutal. the last time was when my sons were younger and they wanted some albino african frogs. they were tiny in the beginning, until they acquired a taste for the tiger barbs they shared the tank with. gulp.
I've took the 20g Cube down Saturday to ease the amount of time I have for maintenance. Now it's just 4 tanks and since I get up early all the time I can do 2 tanks on Saturday and 2 on Sunday before my wife gets out of bed. I'll soon be getting Friday afternoons off for "Summer Hours" and I can do all 4 then while my wife is still working too. Most of the time I'm just watching water go out and water going back in... LOL!
If I have to I can go 2 weeks between water changes.
now I'm sure our paths have crossed back in the day. my high school friend's mom had a home at 9th and marine and as wannabe hippies we would hang out on the hill on weekends. tulagi's was the place to be for hearing music back then and the hill was where we scored the premium exotica of the era. which is probably the main reason why I can't remember anything about the interior of tulagi's, except for being almost next to the musicians when they were playing. when the caribou ranch was in operation, there was no telling who would drop in to jam with the headliners.
turn the cube into a guppy breeding tank if you have any fish that require live food and forget about the maintenance, you can't kill them with tank neglect. feed and forget. I'd finally had enough of the maintenance my first go round, bagged up all the survivors from my rampaging unsexed betta (???), and gave them to a friend that had a huge arowana.
Morning...we just commemorated ANZAC day here in Australia and New Zealand on Tuesday...one of the most sacred days on our calendar...a combination of Aussie and Kiwi troops landing in Gallipoli in Turkey in WW1...was a monumental stuff up but the ANZACS have never been forgotten and a legend was born..
Every year my home town and it is the only one in Australia that does it makes a floral carpet from donated flowers to remember the fallen from all wars...
Lest We Forget..🌅🇦🇺🇳🇿
PS: this not a political statement nor is it glorifying war, it is part of my heritage and I thought I would just like to share it with you...🦘🦘🦘🦘
I don't know if you're aware of my feelings about politicizing this group, but I don't think your photos sharing with us your nation's tradition with the beauty it created as being making a political statement.
This is called the Hall of Memory in the Australian War Memorial. The stained glass is stunningly beautiful and to get to this part of the War Memorial you walk along the walls that are covered with the names of each Australian killed in wars that Australia was involved in.
This is why I built it. Monday I enjoyed my first cherry tomato of the year.
I am still working on a trellis for the plants to grow on. This has let me get plants in the ground early and when it gets warm I will take the sides off. The blue jugs have water in them to hold heat but I had to use electric heater last week.
Like my father before me, I have always loved tomatoes - in my mind's eye I can still see him eating a whole tomato like an apple - good to see you growing them.
Looks like it takes guarding seriously. The only dog I ever had was named Bailey as well. She was a soft-coated wheaten terrier the same colour as the liquor.
I believe they are irises. As for the futuristic robot rides, they are rented for kids to wheel around in, note the seat and they have controls to guide them. The picture after that is proof that the ancient Chinese may have invented baseball.
Just before the sun went down the fading light hit the new green leaves and made them look like yellow fall leaves. Pictures taken last Saturday by train tracks at Shenandoah Junction, West Virginia.
This photo shows the new addition to my smoothie station - a digital photo frame. I have created so much artwork from photos that it was just cluttering up my phone and remained unseen. Picked this up for about $60 on Amazon and synced it up to my phone, dumped everything on it, and now it is permanently on a rotating display that even has a touch screen. Something nice to look at while waiting for the microwave to finish.
Looks like they're on fire. Join Monet in depicting haystacks. Did you ever watch the movie "Gambit" starring Colin Firth, Cameron Diaz and Alan Rickman?
I will only use a free editing site. I have been using Adobe Photoshop Express which is really easy to use, but is very limited, especially with its frames choices and more extreme edits. I just took a look at lunapix and tried to reduce the size of a photo, but it didn't seem to allow it to be easily done, only allows vertical and horizontal adjustments individually which means I have to do calculations rather than single-click ratio increasing or decreasing size. As well, everything I did took ages to open. I stopped checking out any other aspects after that.
I like the Picsart app because it is so flexible. It does cost $60/yr but that’s still pretty cheap for a hobby. It allows you to vary the degree of all filters from 0 to 100%, layer vignettes and borders on top of one another at user specified widths and fading, has exceptional mirroring and clipping capabilities, and good lighting adjustments - although I typically use a free photoshop app for its lighting and clarity functions. Both of these apps are used exclusively on my iphone. Here is a good example - I took this original photo from the deck of a cruise ship and created the edit within minutes, all on my phone without leaving my seat:
this is a screen shot from lunapic. This feature allows resizing and rescaling of images in a very easy way. There is a slide bar to make the photo larger or smaller, or you can enter the pixel dimensions as a number. Then you can save it as the new size.
One thing I'll say about Lunapic, its not the most user friendly thing I've ever seen. They have so many choices and options and not a lot of explanation as to how to use them.
I've looked at a couple of other editing websites/apps and they were impossible to figure out. Of course, I didn't look at the on-line tutorials, which might help.
Beautiful sky, Kav. Love how the fountain is lit up.
I haven't had a nice sunset in a while. It's been a dry spring for a change, and the evening skies are almost always clear. Not much to catch the light on the horizon.
First-things-first. Check the article t the link below.

Nothing special, just a quick video walkthrough of my "fishroom" corner of the basement.
Beautiful, EG.
That is really nice.
So peaceful, they look like they're happy to see you.
happy to see the 2 legged fish food dispenser...

Really cool. The background light that changes color is a nice touch.
I will snap a pic and show. Amazes me.

is the tank exposed to sunlight?
A little bit. Kinda from an angle. It has been in that spot though for a long time.

Used to work in a club called Tulagi in Boulder Co. Way back in the day.
The IRS shut us down and allowed multiple exotic fish tanks to die.
Played a time or two there with my band and once picked Bonnie Rait off of the floor when she had had one too many.
There are certain parts of the 60s that I actually miss.

Thursday evening we had a hell of a thunderstorm which included HAIL, yes in Florida the temp was 72 degrees and the hail was coming down.
This is what we were left with after the storm passed.
Nice double rainbow capture!
I wonder if a beautiful rainbow is nature's way of saying, sorry for the inconvenience.
It could do even more to show its appreciation - put a pot of gold as the end of the rainbow.
I believe that is called wishful thinking.
The only pot-o-gold I ever found was fools gold.
Not wishful thinking - this is QUITE possible.
Cool shot. Those clouds look ominous.

Fabulous editing GG - especially the second and third images.
Some sort of sea sponge I found on the shore.
Towel fun courtesy of the cruise ship room attendant.
I like the sponge photo - and was amused by the creative job done by the cruise staff.
Haha, cool. What did they use for the eyes in the second pic?
Just stickers but I went on another cruise where they used googly eyes.
They look like little pieces of sushi, but I knew that couldn't be right, lol.
so we're back to the fish tanks then...

This is my new greenhouse
Outstanding! That looks great!
Where did my comment go? Anyway, beautiful job - I could never have done that.

Bailey, the Lab, guards the greenhouse. The plants are wild parsnips that come up early every spring
Looks like it takes guarding seriously. The only dog I ever had was named Bailey as well. She was a soft-coated wheaten terrier the same colour as the liquor.
Nice looking Lab.
Just a collection of odd photos I have taken over the years here.

Are the flowers in the top photo some kind of iris? They look really similar, but not exactly the same as the ones I'm used to.
And what the heck are those things in the fourth photo? lol
Look like "Bearded Iris" …
They might be Bearded Iris, but it's a little hard to tell from that photo.
I believe they are irises. As for the futuristic robot rides, they are rented for kids to wheel around in, note the seat and they have controls to guide them. The picture after that is proof that the ancient Chinese may have invented baseball.
Is it spring or fall?
Just before the sun went down the fading light hit the new green leaves and made them look like yellow fall leaves. Pictures taken last Saturday by train tracks at Shenandoah Junction, West Virginia.
Good catch - I've seen leaves look like they turned silver, but never gold.

I'm confused. Do you mean that which is to the right of the microwave window, or what's plugged in on the counter?
It’s plugged in on the counter, displaying a hummingbird picture. Images display for a few seconds and then advance.
Oh, I was really off base. I hadn't even looked at the frame over on the left.
A good way to head into the weekend. Sunset, Friday evening Stone Creek, Ocala, FL.

Hey John,
Good to see you!
You saw last night's Stone Creek sunset, well here is tonight.
Just one magnificent view after another.
Beautiful sky, Kav. Love how the fountain is lit up.
I haven't had a nice sunset in a while. It's been a dry spring for a change, and the evening skies are almost always clear. Not much to catch the light on the horizon.
Sunset it is then.
