I really can't complain, since I'm still sucking wind. hot as hell and the mountains are on fire. 3 months left of the silly season, and if there was a bounty on knuckle dragging morons, I'd be rich. finally bookmarked an oz slang dictionary, can you tell?

Hmm afraid the Great Southern Land doesn't really have much in the way of mountains..
The highest we have is Mt Kosciusko at 2,228 metres..located in NSW..
However the actual ski fields here are bigger than Switzerland and apparently we get more snow..

You do have some topography down there after all.
That is pretty respectable, almost 7310 ft for those of us still dealing with the imperial system. Dev will be forced to admit that is a mountain because it is higher than Denver at 5280 feet or 1629 meters. For some reason it is also important that it has no trees atop it.
Evening..well there you go..I didn't realise we had mountains higher than what is in Denver..
And nothing lives up there that can kill ya...Dev will be disappointed..
what tree can grow on a rock where the wind blows 60mph when the temperature changes 40 degrees every day? even plants aren't that stupid...
2228 metres is an acceptable mountain, considering it's sitting on the planet's biggest sandbar.

Not much going on these days. I have a few plants ordered yesterday for the office Paludarium. The shallow that used to be in the office now has a stand, but I'm not going to order plants for that until the 15th. The old terrestrial house plants that were in there are doing really well in the 40g though.
I've lost track of all your aquariums, so forgive me if you've already answered my questions. does that one have fish in it? do you heat and aerate it? what about the ph levels as they relate to the plants and fish, if any?
This one has about a billion endler guppies and some cherry shrimp. I'm in the process of moving things around so I can start separating them by sex in different tanks and giving them out to whomever wants them. I heat the room to 68 during the winter, but I still have a heater in the back of the tank set at 70. I don't really need to, but it makes me feel better...lol. I also have 2 small sponge filters in the back corners and a small return pump for the waterfall. I use tap water so my pH from the tap is 8.2. I don't really worry all that much about it. It is what it is and I'm NOT doing RODI. Too much work. I still try to do 50% water changes every week, but lately that's been out every 2 weeks now. I just clean the glass and trim any plants that need it.

they call the big shrimp tiger prawns down at the gulf.
I eat shrimp fairly often, but I don't think I've ever eaten prawns. I know there are differences between them, size especially, but I just read that prawns are sweeter.
Morning...yes prawns are far superior to shrimp..we don't even give shrimp stomach room here..
We also get Tiger prawns, they are second choice to the Kingies...

If ever you no longer want to do what you do to make a living, you'd be a great candidate to manage a big city aquarium.
I think about that every so often, but perhaps I would be better taking care of a small gallery shop that sells a bit of stuff for hobbyists. People can come in and see my tanks, get some advice and buy some aquatic plants…
going up against the big boxes is a brutal business. I've watched some local guy go thru multiple incarnations during several decades. the population of the denver metro area is close to 3 million and I can count the number of successful private fish stores on 2 hands, barely. I could see it happening small scale in a dense urban millennial situation, but you'd also be selling dog and cat stuff.

The best indeed. Recently, I was put into a AUKUS partners workgroup to increase industry and innovation sector collaboration. Intent is pooling the talents of our defense sectors to more rapidly enable the delivery of advanced capabilities. We are working with investors, private capital, and traditional and non-traditional industry to provide asymmetric capability for our three defense forces from an Indo-Pacific focus. It's great to be part of such a professional, committed group.

Newer phone cameras are pretty good - almost as good as my camera that has a Leica lens with a 600 mm zoom.
that pic is a cell phone pic , raw from the taking , so no filters or apps used . I still dont think it does justice to the scene with what i saw with the naked eye.
Yeah, probably even a panorama shot would not do it justice.

some people do not understand that mentality , its not for everyone though , so to each there own .
in that picture , i started on foot , on the right upper side of the picture on a dirt 2 track you can see, and basically went UP to this meadow another 2000 ft in elevation , the dirt track according to my map app is exactly 4.5 miles away . visibility that day was at about 10 miles .
I will be back up there in a couple weeks chasing the little furries i was lucky enough to draw tags for , again , 3rd yr in a row .

well here at least , one has to put into a lottery of sorts for certain game species , Pronghorn antelope is one here one has to apply and be drawn for .
then there are tags allotted by a lottery system for other species where the state wishes to reduce the herd sizes a little more than general hunting takes . Its used mostly as a management tool , and typically there is no guarantee one will draw tags for areas they want to hunt .
this year i drew tags for pronghorn antelope and an additional deer tag i pronghorn tag is for a male way out in the boon docks , and a second pronghorn tag is for a doe /fawn in a different area that they wish to reduce the herd size .
This would also be in addition to the over the counter lics i can get for deer , elk and damage control lics .
technically this year if successful , i will take 2 antelope , 2 deer , an elk and a few white tailed does , those doe tags are herd control tags they sell on the cheap over the counter and there is no limit to how many i can purchase . The reason those are available is they are being issued and for sale in areas that the state wants more mule deer than whitetails . the whitetails are coming in from the east and pushing out the native mule deer and getting into ranchers cattle forage they count on for winter feeding ..
For someone looking to fill a freezer with meat , its ALMOST a sure shot at healthy venison .
Arvo...yes we have deer here...no lottery needed they are regarded as a feral pest..
Stupid deer farmers went bust and released them into the bush..in my district they have become a real problem..
They send shooters up in helicopters to cull them..shot 2,000 in a few weeks ..didn't even dent the population unfortunately..
Have tried venison didn't float my boat I am afraid..I will stick with my Scotch fillet steak...
I didn't know that deer reproduce like rabbits. Australia seems to have a problem with both. Next movie might be Deer Proof Fence. In Australia, do little kids cry when Bambi's mother is killed in the Bambi movie?
can relate to that , here they decided to gain some funds from the culling instead of have to pay someone to do so .
a lot of the money from those additional doe tags goes into different baskets , some might go into the fund that pays ranchers for lost feed , some of the tag money over all goes towards getting more land enrolled for public use and wild life habitat, some goes for winter feeding of wildlife in feed grounds so they make it through the winters here . seems some gets pushed off their natural winter ranges , mainly because folks want to build there , so in some cases they get fed , and that gets controversial as well.
then there are the outfitters , they make their entire years pay in the space of the posted seasons , which lasts usually 5 months or so , big money there taking out of staters around on what to the out of staters is likely a once in a lifetime hunt , so they want something big and bragable . a trophy .
game meat taste , thats individual choice , but my dad being a butcher by profession , passed on a lot of his knowledge to me and i in turn am passing it down as well.
the biggest thing that affects the taste of game meat , is its care it gets immediately after its killed . i have a routine , get it gutted , get it cooled down as quick as possible , the faster you get the body temp down the better . get the hide and outside glands off as soon as possible , both of those will taint the meat with an unwanted flavor and dont forget the glands in the rump muscle ..
Of course depending on taste , is what you harvest , i like dry does and cow elk , they dont have young of the year , they dont get pushed as hard as males , AND they dont get shot through during mating season with testosterone and adrenaline ., that helps keep the meat very good even for some that detest it .
Well they certainly put the money to good use.. that's great when they do that..
I am pretty sure they just leave the carcass here not a great deal of demand for venison.. plus the distances they would have to haul it would be rather costly..
Most kids these days wouldn't know the Bambi movie if they fell over it..
It would be detrimental to their well being, impact their mental capability, cause stress and anxiety, create life long mental issues and scar them for life...and seeing such a horrendous movie would give them nightmares..
There are no predators here in the bush to take on deer so they do literally breed like rabbits unfortunately...
Thats the thing here , cant leave the carcass, have to by law take all edible parts out with you , if you dont and are caught , huge fine , and possible loss of hunting privileges, and my state is part of a compact agreement with other states , if you lose the right to hunt in one you lose that right in all the compact member states . so no lose it in one state and jump a state line to do the same thing there .
