CREATIVE ARTS GROUP 3 DAY WEEKEND
Buzz is back at the wheel. although I'm a bit concerned about posting an article on Friday the 13th, I'm posting it just before the clock strikes 12 for the day to begin, cause I will have to go out soon. Today's theme, for me at least, although everyone is invited to post whatever creative artwork they wish, will be photos I have taken over the years here of people. I'll open with one I took of two people in costume: The famous Monkey King from the popular Chinese novel Journey to the West, who also is now a character in an extremely popular brand new video game, and Panda, who is popular worldwide, but whose basic home is Sichuan Province, where I was when I took this photo. By the way, I promise to be more careful about when I close this article. LOL

Photos of people that I have taken over the years since I arrived in China.
1. This is Huali, my nephew's wife, taken many years ago at the wedding of her sister when I first lived in Zhengzhou, Henan Province. She is holding a friend's child as they have no children. I was told by someone that that photo should be considered a magazine comer.
.
2. I took this photo of an Indian pita baker in Ciqikou Old Town, an ancient part of Chongqing where I live.
.
3. This creator of glass figurines was also located in Ciqikou, which is a popular tourist area.
.
4. This man was sitting out in the street in Zhengzhou selling miscellaneous goods.
.
5. A monk taking a break from prayers and meditation at the White Horse Temple in Luoyang, Henan Province. The White Horse Temple was built where 3 Buddhist monks from India on white horses brought Buddhism to China. The Emperor at that time was so impressed he gave them this property to build their temple. I call this photo 'Primary Colours'.
.
6. In Langmei, an ancient museum village in Giuanxi Province, I saw this woman, finally someone who looked older than me, LOL. I named this photo 'Ain't Nobody Here But Us Spring Chickens'.
.
7. Sitting and staring at a pond that will soon overflow with lotuses, I took this photo at a community around the corner from where we live, and enjoy its landscaping and flora. Over the years I've posted on NT many photos taken there. I call this one 'Contemplation'.
.
8. No they're not Japanese. They're students at the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute, the beautifully landscaped campus of which is just kitty-korner to where we live where we often have walked. I've also posted on NT many photos from that location.
You really do have a great eye for photography..
Thank you. There is just SO MUCH here that makes great photos.
Fantastic photos!
You've posted so many here--enough for a book!
Have you ever thought of doing that? (Publishing a book, it called be called something like: "Photos of China" by Buzz of the Orient).
I'm not sure exactly how that works in China, but you could find out.
(In the U.S. it entails bringing the manuscript around to different publishers. If none want to publish it, there's "self-publishing" (that the author has to pay for!).
As answered in other comment.
Thanks for the compliment. Although some of my photos have won prizes, I really doubt that anyone would publish such a book, and I really can't afford to bankroll it myself. The western politicians and media have poisoned the minds of the public about this ancient magical land of incredible culture, traditions, artifacts and wondrous sights to view so nobody would buy such a book anyway.
I think it would appeal to two types of people-- those who like to travel and/or are interested in what life is like in different parts of the world-- and those who just like interesting photo books.
And not all Americans hate China..
And I was not thinking it could be sold only in the U.S. I would imagine that many people in China would like a book of interesting/artistic photos of their own country!
I very much appreciate your suggestions, but although I've taken many photos here, I don't feel that enough are of the quality they would have to be for such a book, and besides, these days I no longer have the ambition for such a project. I'm just too old and too tired to put such a thing together.
Arvo...well for the last three years or so we have been getting a visitor from Antarctica...he rolls up twice a year and flops and sloshes around the harbour and canal..
Meet Sammy the elephant seal..he is a big boy but still a juvenile and stacked on the kilos since he was last here..he seems to like the place as keeps coming back which is great to see..
I took the photo over the other side of the canal...that was close enough for me...
The angle of your photo is probably better from where you took it. Showing people in the background gives a concept of the size of that 'baby', which you might not have achieved otherwise.
Evening...even though he is one mass of blubber they can still move extremely fast on land..
I didn't fancy getting anywhere near him..
Not my photo but this is how big they grow...
WOW!!! I never knew seals could get that big.
Morning...no a lot of people have no idea how big they can grow..seen many documentaries on Antarctica and when two males fight it really is rather brutal...
And here I had thought that seals were gentle creatures, something like the manatees in Florida's canals.
Yes the smaller species are quite friendly and very inquisitive..we have a large seal colony along the coast here..
Unfortunately they also attract the Great Whites as they love to snack on seals...
Elephant seals are very different and are rather aggressive and very loud..they come on land to molt and in that time they stop eating and live off their blubber.. which Sammy has plenty of...
They also cause traffic chaos and lumber into people's yards..if you google Neil the seal there is one in Tasmania that creates all sorts of trouble around the town and has become quite a hit..
Well, have fun with them, they're not for me.
Zuma Beach (© G. Gam)
A beautiful beach, being in Malibu it's hard for me to understand why it is so deserted.
Rather dangerous... wouldn't get me going in there..
To steep and strong under tow and rips ..you might go in, but doubt you would come out..
All of our beaches are not always crowded. As a local guy, I know that this stretch of beach is never crowded, even though the area at the far end in the picture can get fairly crowded on a summer day. I've hung out on this beach since I was a kid. It's one of my favorites. I've always liked that there is almost no one ever there.
Just don't go out farther than waist high, and a sandy beach is a nice place to be, is it not?
No one swims in this area. At the far end it's safer and they have lifeguards, although there is a shore break so I never really liked swimming there.
I like walking this beach, feeling the breeze, checking out the shorebirds, watching the ocean. My wife loves it, too. There is a small restaurant up a ways that you can't see in the picture just a few feet off the beach that's great for lunch.
A lot of my childhood summer vacations spent at my grandmother's summer cottage at Burlington Beach, at the far western point of Lake Ontario, found me much of the time on this Lake Ontario beach, and in fact right about at this very spot, but there were no beach umbrellas back then. (Internet image)
It has been about a quarter of a century since I have been on a beach, but the memories are almost as refreshing as the water was.
Arvo G..
I am with you, I hate crowds on beaches. Much prefer to be by myself or very few people around..
That's one thing I dread about summer flaming tourists..half the time I can't even get a car spot..and they invade the place like ants..
It's always good when the holidays are over and they all buggar off back to the city...and peace and quiet returns..
My favourite beach where I go with my surf mat...
That is one fabulous beach.
Morning Buzz...yes one of the best around to be honest...but not that many people know about it..
Yes it gets stacked out over the Christmas holidays but after that, it is all ours again..
Burlington Beach, which I pictured above where I spent a lot of time when I was a kid, never got much more crowded than you see in the photo.
In case it hasn't been noticed, this article combines art with cars:

I think I'm right this time that it is after Sunday midnight in Hawaii, so the Three Day Weekend is now done. Thanks to all who posted.
