General Eisenhower speaking to members of the 101st Airborne (Screaming Eagles) shortly before they boarded the C-47 that would take them to fateful jump on Normandy.

I would like to make mention that my cousin, PFC Monroe was in that group and later jumped on Normandy and fought across Europe. He was KIA at Bastogne 24 December 1944....

There is a bronze plaque in a small bank in northern Minnesota that simply states...''A Rendezvous with Destiny'' and my cousins name...The words are from General Lee remarks to the member of the 101st Airborne before shipping off to Europe.

''The 101st has no history, but we have a rendezvous with destiny....General Lee to the troopers of the 101st.

I have had many members of my family who fought in Civil War, WWI, WWII and Vietnam and were wounded in action. Many others of our Tribes gave their lives to protect our country and those who live here.

I don't feel that I have anything relevant to D-Day to post, to join those that are, already posted on this article.  The only personal photo I have that is relevant to WW2 has to do with the Flying Tigers, where American Air Force personnel joined the Chinese pilots to ward off the Japanese invading China.  The home of American General Stilwell on a mountainside in Chongqing has been made into a Flying Tigers museum. It was there, about a decade ago where I got to meet one of the Chinese Flying Tiger pilots, who flew missions over the "hump" (the mountains) to Burma (now a/k/a Myanmar) and to listen to some of his stories.  This is a photo of me with him.  We are standing in front of a wall of photos showing him and his family during the war along with other relevant memorabilia.

The airbase itself is now off limits as it has been expanded and is also used as a training centre for fighter pilots, whose flights cross over where I live nearly every day, sometimes even causing a sonic boom.  I did get to catch this photo, and note that it is not exactly a commercial aircraft.

No one from my family was there on that fateful, historical day, which must be considered one of the most significant turning points in history.

May those who have passed Rest In Peace. May those who remain with us, know their efforts are appreciated and may we take care of them in a respectful manner.
