Wife's Update.

"Docs said all is good. Counts at lowest levels … it’s up from here. Keep doing what I’m doing

Feeling tired but that’s normal and controlling nausea and other side effects."

________________________________________________________________

Post your creative stuff … imagery, poetry, commentary, philosophy … "Autumn" is a suggestion, not a requirement.

Great news Mac.

Having been through a marrow transplant with a good friend, I know the good news is always welcome.  Now it's the monitoring and minor med adjustments/changes that is the norm, but that's the good thing...  they're the norm and expected.

Good luck.

It is great to have encouraging words, especially when they are based on a direct or shared experience of a similar nature. I thank you for taking the time to do so.

Rodney A. Grant: He is best known for his role as "Wind In His Hair" (Lakota: Pȟehíŋ Otȟáte) in the 1990 film Dances with Wolves. Grant, a Native American, was raised on the Omaha Reservation in Macy, Nebraska. After his biological parents abandoned him, his grandparents raised him from six months of age, until 1982.

Your image made me think of him.

Thank you Buzz, for the very informative and interesting background on Rodney Grant. I knew of his being a Native American, but, did not know of the circumstances of his childhood. "Dancing With Wolves" has remained one of my favorite movies, as well as "Little Big Man".

I am truly glad that my creation reminded you of this great movie, and Rodney Grant as well. Tank you.

Not only did the swirling hair on your image make me think "Wind In His Hair" but even the facial features of your image resemble Grant's:

Love the beautiful colors and contrasts in the larger photo, Mac. Reminds me of the many drives along Skyline Drive in the Shenandoah Mountains in the fall. The myriad of colors in the various leaves and the defining contrast of the evergreen trees always made for such a wonderful experience. So peaceful, serene and Spiritual.

The Shenandoah Valley and Mountains are the homeland of my Maternal Cherokee ancestors, so it has a special meaning for me as well.

Been there several times … will search my database for photos … but it was years ago so not sure I have the photos as digital files. The 35mm slides were submitted to an agent who passes away and some 8000-10,000 slides were never returned to me.

Oh my...what an unbelievable loss of your work. If you can find some photos of your trips along the Skyline Dr I would love to see them.  The one place I loved as well was the Great Smokey Mountains. I sat and watched the thick bank of 'smoke' creep over and down the mountains early one morning and is was such a truly Spiritual experience, I had goosebumps as I watched. I made a video of it.

Beautiful, Mac. There are a lot of very beautiful streams throughout the Shenandoah Mtns and Valley.

When I first moved to Warrenton VA, which is just a short drive from the Shenandoah Valley and Mtns, I did a Reunion ceremony in the Mtns. It is a Reunion with the Spirits of my Cherokee Ancestors.

Here is a picture of the Reunion layout before the ceremony;

The offerings consist of a Feather, stones of the Four Sacred Colors, dried venison and water from a nearby stream. The antler in the middle is a deer antler.

Best Update Yet: We have an appointment scheduled with the Director of Myeloma Immunotherapy at the University of Pennsylvania scheduled for October 18th. This means that my wife will have been discharged and home prior! Assuming that her blood counts will continue to progress, this is welcomed anticipation (with appropriate caution).

Saturday Update: Just home from hospital. This is “day 5” after the stem cell transplant. My wife's white cell count is zero and should begin to rise over the next five days. Once a particular level is reached, the date of discharge will be determined. The recent anti-nausea medication she is receiving seems to be quite effective.

I am tired but time to feed my doggie. Will keep everyone posted.

Sunday Night Update: My wife's doctor today said all is progressing as intended with the possibility (I emphasize … “POSSIBILITY”) that she may be discharged next weekend. Her white blood cells went from zero yesterday, to 80 this morning, the significance of which is that, when the count reaches 1000, the immune system is viable enough for the patient to be discharged. I can’t say if that number represents the number of cells per a given volume of blood, but it likely has something to do with mass per unit of volume. Her voice is stronger each passing day, hopefully something that corresponds to recovery. And, she watched the entire Eagles/Jets game in her room this afternoon … which, in-and-of-itself is a kind of personal milestone. I will keep the updates coming.
