On January Sixth, hundreds of marauders assaulted and invaded the Capitol of the United States of America. They threatened the police officers who tried to do their duty of defending the Capitol. The rebels killed one of those police officers. They ransacked offices. They stole.

Those people were not committing "sedition". They were beyond that. They committed "rebellion" .

--

But... there were far more than "hundreds" of Trump supporters present in Washington that day:

original

There were thousands of them. They did not all invade the Capitol. Nor did they leave the scene. They "hung around".

Why?

Were they hesitating to assault their nation's Capitol? Were they hesitating to go home ? Were they just curious to know how it would shake out?

They stayed for hours.

384

Were they waiting for a "second act" - for example a public parade of captured Representatives, with their hands cinched behind their backs? This rebel wasn't carrying wrist-ties for no reason.

96 In case anyone doesn't know the symbols of violent American fascism, the "Punisher Skull" (seen on this rebel's chest) is drawn from a Marvel Comics character , who differs from other "heroes" by being a "vigilante who employs murder, kidnapping, extortion, coercion, threats of violence, and torture in his campaign against crime." Wearing the Punisher Skull shows willingness to use violence, including killing, to attain a goal.

Perhaps, as law enforcement arrests and charges the rebels , we will get a better picture.

It's clear that there is a wide spectrum of fascist-fellow-travelers in America. Those in Washington on January Sixth were not frivolous - just the expense of getting to Washington required a minimum of engagement.

In my mind, it speaks volumes that very few saw the attack on the Capitol as sufficient reason to leave the scene. The vast majority of the fascist-fellow-travelers present that day were quite happy to see the nation's Capitol sacked . They just weren't courageous enough to participate, themselves. They were spectators.

There's no way of knowing what conclusions they have drawn since then....

I see hundreds, if not thousands, of peaceful people hanging around. I disagree that they are " fascist-fellow-travelers"

A couple hundred others started a riot that had been planned for a long time

They have been arrested and charged. IMHO, their actions didn't amount to sedition, insurrection, or revolution.

... standing by as the Capitol is sacked.

Do rebels need to show up with a written statement of intent before they are considered to be such?! No, of course not.

I agree. Anyone who saw the invasion, and did not leave immediately, was, at the very least, giving moral support to the rebels. So the fascist-fellow-travelers were all over the scale, from active rebellion to moral support.
