Why I wont drive in China.

I started driving legally at the age of 15, and owned my own cars since I was 16. Truly Ive had a lot of experience more than half a century of it, and when you drive in Canada you drive through all sorts of weather conditions: rain, wind, ice, snow, slush, etc. and on all kinds of roads from dirt logger trails to gravel to superhighways. How many people know that when you try to speed over a puddle your car can hydroplane, lift the wheels to the surface of the water and then you cant steer or stop so the car starts to spin, then roll? How many people know that when the temperature just reaches freezing that the roads may still be just wet, but when you drive over a bridge the cold currents under it can freeze the water on the surface and you suddenly and unexpectedly hit ice? They dont teach those things at the driving schools here but they can damn well face those conditions - I've seen it. The drivers here cut corners, run traffic lights, block intersections, drive too fast for conditions, and although there are rules of the road, the enforcement is incompetent and lax.

For sure, if I drive here, either I am going to kill someone, or someone is going to kill me.

First of all, sometimes you cant see anything:

Then most of the drivers are inexperienced (watch this video):

No, no, the steps are for PEOPLE, use the BRIDGE!!! 12758_discussions.jpeg

You have to deal with these:

12759_discussions.jpg The motor-bike drivers think they own the road, do not pay attention to traffic signals or the rules of the road, so this is what happens:

Courtesy is rare, everyone is for themselves and this is the result:

After 8 years in China, Im still alive, and I credit that to the fact that I will not drive here.

Be sure to watch that video - the TV news broadcasts here sometimes show the accidents at intersections taken by surveillance cameras - you wouldn't believe what you see.
