Harbin Ice and Snow World opens for the season

After nearly 20 days' construction, the 22nd Harbin Ice and Snow World, a 600,000-square-meter wonderland, began its official run on Thursday in Harbin, Northeast China's Heilongjiang province, which will last till the end of February.

As an important part of the annual Harbin International Ice and Snow Festival, the park is built with ice and snow.

The park has been divided into six parts and tourists can enjoy groups of famous structures from foreign countries, including Russia, Greece and Latvia.

Tourists can join in various activities on the snow and ice, including a hundreds-meter-long ice slide and a New Year's party on Dec 31.

The park will have preferential policies for tourists this winter, with tickets costing 100 yuan ($15.31), a 30 percent reduction from before.

Their ice images are really fascinating. Some of them are so intricate it is amazing how they can get such intricate detail without the ice breaking. Amazing.

An amazing place, a bit cold for me though.

Every year St. Paul MN has their Ice Carnival. I believe it starts on January 1st and their is a tie in with Canada in it's history.

LOL. After spending most of your life up north, you spend a year or so in Florida and all of a sudden you got soft?
