With the passing of a cold front recently, the Sifangdingzi Mountain scenic area in Huinan county, Jilin province, has been glazed with the natural beauty of soft rime.
Delicate rime on trees creates a spectacular sight, turning the area into a dreamy landscape.
Rime is a special type of frost — granular tufts of ice — that appears only when atmospheric conditions are right and water vapor meets cold air.

"Rime" is a new word for me, although I'm sure I have witnessed rime during Canadian winters more than a few times.
WOW
I'm sure you've seen rime ice before coming from the Great White North... ;)
Worst I saw was a late night when I was leaving a girlfriends house back in Wisconsin, my entire car was covered in almost 1/3 inch of rime ice, very hard ice. Had to bang on the door handle to be able to open the door, then spent a good 30 minutes letting the defroster blow on the windshield in order to soften it up enough that I could scrape it off...
But it sure is pretty when it glistens in the sun shine.
I've mentioned a few times on NT that the sight of the sparkling crystal paradise on a cold sunny day after a freezing rain is one of the things I miss most about winter.
Looking at it ...... beautiful... Having to deal with it? Hell No!!!!
Canada stopped using salt long ago and just uses sand since salt caused car body deterioration.
