Buses in the Canadian city of Toronto are decorated with Tiger images to mark the Lunar New Year for the first time, and they are intended to better exhibit the Chinese culture, the designer of the bus decorations told Xinhua in a recent interview.
"That is a good opportunity to let the people of Toronto to understand more about our culture," said Brenda Tong who is a Chinese Canadian.
"In my mind, when I see the Tiger from the past, it's always black and white painting, and I want to translate it into a more colorful and cheerful kind of celebration, festive mood," Tong said. "Especially in this COVID and wintertime in Toronto, everybody needs something to cheer them up and make it more celebration."
"Because the tiger is the main theme and character of this year, I want to be more popped up from the background and add a little bit of shadow to the tiger," she explained her concept of designing. Tong also blended some other elements of the Lunar New Year, such as lanterns, firecrackers, and gold -- the symbol of fortune and good luck.
"The wrap is arousing a lot of interest and attention from the public," she said.

Toronto - my home for the biggest part of my life. About 10% of Toronto's population is Asian, the vast majority of which is Chinese. There are two Chinatowns, the older and bigger one is right downtown along and in the vicinity of Spadina Avenue. The second one, much newer is just north of the main city limits in the GTA (Greater Toronto Area). Here are a few views from the internet of Toronto's downtown Chinatown.

Los Angles has a huge China Town as well as numerous other Asian enclaves. From Korean to Hmong. Having lived in LA for over 40 years I was a regular visitor to many of the Asian areas.
Is the San Francisco Chinatown older and bigger?
San Francisco Chinatown is much older. As for size I don't know, Buizz.
Please let me know if the images of the bus in the seed do not open properly. I don't know if it is my computer only that is a problem, or everyone has a problem with them. It's midnight here now so if it's a general problem I'll try to fix it in my morning.
Everything looks okay for me. Nice seed.
I think these are beautiful, Buzz. Thanks for posting it
Morning Buzz...ummm do they still do that when it's the year of the Rat???
A Tiger is far more appealing than a Rat...
Learn something every day.. China town in Melbourne is the longest continuous Chinese settlement in the western world..it was established in the 1850s...never knew that...all comes from the gold rush that was here...
I think this year was the first time they've done it, but rats can still be made to look appealing if along with other decorations. Did you ever see the animated movie Cinderella where the rats were able to deliver the key to her room so she could prove her foot fit the glass slipper? They weren't such bad rats. Besides, I was born during the year of the rat.
Anoon.... yes I am a rat to...was not to thrilled with that but then you sent some good info through on being a rat...after that I was a happy rat....🐀🐀
I thought I remembered that you were. Not so bad being a rat since they're the wisest and leaders of all the other 11.
This is interesting information.
