Southwestern metropolis has emerged as a hot tourist destination in recent years

Sometimes known as the "Mountain City", Chongqing, a southwestern metropolis of 30 million people, has become a major tourist destination not only for its historical and cultural attractions and spicy hotpot, which can be found everywhere, but also for its distinctive urban landscape.

Lit by thousands of colorful lights, the city of skyscrapers built on rolling hills through which the Yangtze and Jialing rivers cut a swathe comes to spectacular life at night, drawing thousands of visitors to its landmarks to enjoy Chongqing's views, its famous spicy food and sizzling nightlife.

Welcome to the city in which my wife and I are living.  It is her home town and it is a fabulous place to live.  Although we live in a suburb, within walking distance of 3 university campuses, I have been to many places here, including as you can see from the following photo, right downtown where the People's Liberation Monument, shown in the top photo, is located.  It wasn't as crowded back then.

Great photos and a very delightful-looking city. I especially like the restaurant with the concrete pipes for dining.

It would certainly make the short list of unusual restaurants of the world.

It should be of interest to Americans that Chongqing (back then known as Chunking) was where the WW2 Flying Tigers were based, and was mentioned in the movie 30 Seconds Over Tokyo as where the bomber crews should go after they dropped their bombs on Tokyo.  I have been to the Flying Tiger Museum, which was originally the home of General Joseph Stilwell where I met and spoke with one of the original Chinese Flying Tiger pilots who flew cargo "over the hump" to Burma (now Myanmar).  In this photo the poster behind me  shows him in uniform with his family.

I'm sorry that so few members have any interest in what an amazing city it is in which I'm living, even having some important American history connected to it.

A huge piece of history for both the US and China.
