Milwaukee prosecutors charge 14-year-old with fatally shooting fourth-grader
MILWAUKEE (AP) — Prosecutors in Milwaukee have charged a 14-year-old boy with killing a fourth-grader last month.
The teen faces one count of second-degree reckless homicide, possession of a dangerous weapon by a minor and obstructing an officer in connection with the July 24 shooting that left 9-year-old Harwinder Singh dead, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported.
The newspaper did not name the teenager due to his age. He’s set to be tried in juvenile court, where proceedings and dispositions are secret.
The teen told investigators that he was in a car with a 43-year-old man and Singh, according to the criminal complaint. After the man left them to enter a nearby business, the teen found a gun in the glove compartment, pointed it at Singh and shot him in the head.
The teen said he didn’t have control of the weapon and that Singh’s death was an accident, according to the complaint.
The teen initially said that Singh had the gun and shot himself when he tried to take it away from him.
When asked what consequences he should face, the teen said he thought five days in jail would be appropriate, the complaint said.
Prosecutors haven’t decided whether to charge the man, the newspaper reported.

Welcome to America. Bring a gun.
And this article has just appeared.. you're doomed..😁😁
This one I can't explain.
These are among the worst stories when it comes to guns. I can't imagine leaving a loaded gun where children can get a hold of it and leaving one in a glove compartment would always be on my mind.
The other thing that doesn't sit right is that a "child" would fire a gun at another child, lie about it and somehow obstruct law enforcement. I assume the lie is what constitutes "obstructing an officer." I'm not sure. There is nothing childlike about that child. All of that should be considered in court.
There was nothing wrong with a gun being in a glove compartment. What was wrong was that either the glove compartment was not locked or if it was the keys were left perhaps in the ignition, enabling children alone in the car access to the gun. It is just another of many incidences recently of children getting hold of a gun that has not been safely stored and killing another kid or an adult. And yes, it was lying about it to the police that had to have been considered "obstructing an officer".
I recall the kid who got his hands on his fathers loaded gun and shot and killed his sister:
He lived with that? I would never be able to.
Hopefully the gun owner is also charged, convicted and jailed for being so irresponsible.
What is WRONG with these people who are not careful about storing their guns? They make the Oz scarecrow a genius in comparison. I guess they can be compared to those who were anti-maskers and refused to follow the guidelines during the worst of the pandemic, spouting their holy "individual rights and freedoms". There is NO WAY gun control is going to occur in the USA, and the blame isn't just because of the ignorant who won't vote for reasonable gun control, but even those gun lovers who are careful about their guns, and I know there are some NT members who are, who REFUSE to support any kind of EFFECTIVE gun control are to blame. I have not been in the USA for the last 15 years and even though I have travelled more of the USA during my lifetime than a lot of Americans I won't step a foot in that country ever again. I fear for the safety of my son and his young family who live in Milwaukee and wish he could find a comparable position in Canada, where he is a citizen by birth.
I have no problem with responsible gun ownership, however irresponsible ownership should be punished harshly
Do you believe that that will end the massive gun violence, because I sure don't.
