Classic Cars and Boats

The group image is of a 1937 Rolls Royce Phantom III Razor Edge Sedanaca limousine.  The reason I used it for the group image is because for 1 day I had the privilege and experience of driving such a car, one identical to the image.

800

A restaurant owner client of mine owned the car (he also owned an airplane - a pretty successful restauranteur) and because a couple of friends of mine were getting married he lent me the car for the day so I was able to pick up the couple, drive them to the church, and after the wedding, drive them around downtown Toronto causing a bit of a sensation from the pedestrians.  I had to "double-clutch" and damned if I can remember now what that means.

If not a Classic Rolls Royce, if you drove a classic car, let's hear about it.

Driven but not owned.

A 1930 Essex  & a 1936 Plymouth,  but I was only 12 years old and my Dad was strictly in charge !

Other than that classic Rolls Royce, the oldest car I ever drove was the second hand 1950 Ford Custom Coach my father gave me for my 16th birthday.

We in Victoria have always had to be 18 before we got a driving licence.  but years ago  South Australians  could get their licence at 16.  However in SA you need to be 21 before you could legally drink alcohol.   Great idea for road safety   !!

In Ontario, Canada, we could get our first driver's licence when we were 15, but it was a learner's permit, and we could drive only when a regular licensed driver was sitting beside us.  At 16 we got a regular adult driver's licence.
