Looking to escape politics for the next 4 years? This cruise has you covered

While a four-year cruise isn't exactly inexpensive, you can't put a price on peace.

.Are you an unhappy voter looking to escape the fallout of an election, whether it's a certain election that just happened south of the border, a local mayoral election or even your condo board? Well, one cruise company wants to help you get away for the next four years.

Villa Vie Residences announced this month it's starting to offer around-the-world sailing adventures aboard the Villa Vie Odyssey cruise ship that can last as long as four years and allow guests to avoid whatever is happening on home soil, at least temporarily.

And while the company did not directly mention the U.S. presidential election in its press release announcing the "Tour La Vie" package, it's clear from the cheeky marketing materials that they're targeting U.S. residents eager to escape the country's electoral realities.

Those interested can join a four-year "Skip Forward" package, a three-year "Everywhere but Home" package, a two-year "Mid-Term Selection" package and a one-year "Escape from Reality" package.

A company spokesperson, speaking to Quartz, said the offering isn't "meant to stir political uproar but to offer a real way for people who are disappointed with the election results to get away from reality."

The ship aims to circumnavigate the globe every three-and-a-half years, making stops in more than 400 destinations. The boat can hold up to 600 travellers and just entered its second month of a 15-year around-the-world tour, which will take it to all seven continents, 13 "Wonders of the World" and more than 100 tropical islands.

The ship will spend early 2025 circling the South American continent from the Pacific to the Atlantic, returning to the Caribbean, transiting the Panama Canal, through Central America to California, Hawaii and Alaska by summer. The ship will continue to Asia in the fall and reach Australia by early November, spending much of next winter in French Polynesia, the Cook Islands and Fiji.

The price for this level of peace means coughing up some major moolah: Packages range from US$40,000, but it costs US$255,999 for one person to have their own room for four years and US$159,999 per person for a double occupancy room for four years.

The company also offers full or fractional ownership options, unlimited access options, or a "pay as you go" option that allows for shorter stays. Friends and family can also join as long-term stay guests for a per-night rate that's based on the ownership or cruise length package.

Anne Alms, Villa Vie's head of sales, said in a press release that the company's cruise "offers a unique, one-of-a-kind way see the whole world at a slow pace where you have enough time to actually experience the cultural vibe of every port."

You don' t have to be rich, you could sell your house to get away from the suffering you're bound to have over the next four years, and if America is ruined permanently you could settle in one of those 400 destinations you are going to visit that will probably be much more affordable - it would certainly be a much happier life than watching your prior "Rome" burning while the government fiddles.

I don't think 4 yrs. on a pandemic incubator would be the ideal plan to avoid the responsibility of saving American democracy. Jumping ship in a foreign port, say China, or some other authoritarian Shangri La makes me sick. Why were you "invited" to China?

Actually, I WAS "invited" to China.  I was retired, had just been hospitalized for 6 months with serious clinical discussion, from being hounded by and bankrupted by the Tax department, my marriage was breaking up, life was hell, but then my nephew, who was teaching English in China wrote to me and INVITED me to come to China to teach, and he would get me a job offer so I could obtain a visa to go.  What I discovered was that teaching Chinese high school students English, Business English and Australia law (the private high school was affiliated with University of Western Australia), and I was more qualified to teach law than anyone else they could possibly find, was the most enjoyable and satisfying thing I had ever done in my life.  Teachers are highly respected in China.  Back then people would stop me on the street and want to take a photo with me, kids wanted my autograph as if I were a famous celebrity, and then I married an absolutely beautiful and wonderful woman to whom I have now been married for 16 very happy years.  So yes, this "authoritarian" Shangri La is where I have received such respect and friendship from government officials, police, and everyone else.  I feel perfectly safe here from violence or being shot (people here don't have guns) and I have neither the need for nor the intention of "saving American democracy" (and I note that you are indicating that it NEEDS saving).  Good luck with that.

No, nothing more than the original news story, but it's possible that the Chinese news stations are covering the aftermath as well, but I don't know.

Looks like everyone would rather brave the storm.

"Some of us were raised to stand and fight!"

Well, good for you, hope you win your battle.

By the way there were no comments by anyone but me when I posted my comment about braving the storm, yours wasn't there so you must have posted it just before I posted mine - had I seen yours I would not have posted what I did.

There is something I've thought about from what you said about "stand and fight".  I wondered what it would take to win such a battle when the majority of Americans have established that they would prefer to be led by an Adolph Hitler rather than a Mahatma Gandhi.

Mhhh.. what's that saying..

Even this too shall pass..

That's one good thing about democracy, don't like 'em at least they can be given the arse at the next election... unlike some countries where they are there for years or life and no elections...pass...

At least after these 4 years he can never be President again...

But in many nations, such as the Commonwealth nations, a Prime Minister can serve for many years.  Anyway I wouldn't be so sure that he can never be President again.  I recall watching a movie about Nixon, in which he was concerned that at the approaching Republican National Convention he might not be chosen to serve his second term, and Kissinger then walked in telling him that he had just arranged for Nixon to go to China to meet Chairman Mao where he would open trade relations with China and gain a billion new consumers for American manufacturers, and then he will return and walk into the Convention and obtain the biggest first vote majority for a second term in history.  Nixon walked over to Kissinger, hugged him and told him he was a genius.  He then asked, what's the possibility of a third term.  With the House of Representatives, the Senate and the SCotUS behind him, it would be no surprise to me if Trump were to give a third term a shot.

Of course, according to him he's NOW going to serve his third term cause, after all, he WON in 2020.
