Donald Trump claims many Canadians want Canada to become 51st state
U.S. president-elect Donald Trump is taking another shot at Canada about becoming part of the United States.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump says many Canadians want Canada to become the 51st state.
He says it would save on taxes and military protection and that he thinks it's a "great idea."
Trump has made repeated digs at Canada and the suggestion that it could become the 51st state in recent days, referring to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau as governor.
The latest jibe comes as Trudeau deals with the bombshell resignation of Chrystia Freeland from cabinet and he faces calls from Liberals for him to step down.
Trump has threatened that when he becomes president next month he will impose massive tariffs on all goods from Canada unless it stops the flow of migrants and illegal drugs into the U.S.

Can you hear the laughter coming out of Canada down there in the USA? I can hear it all the way here on the other side of the world.
I thought I heard something... That was Canada, eh? If we do make them the 51st state will they'll have to stop putting brown gravy on everything?
Or perhaps Trump is just trying to preempt US liberals from running away?
And they'll have to start using ketchup on their fries instead of mayo. We don't even want to talk about some of the shit they put on their pizza....
You don't like poutine?
Mayo? Ketchup? You're kidding. VINEGAR!!!
I like my neighbors to the north and I'm good with the brown gravy. My wife... isn't as big of fan though.
Chacun à son goût.
Sounds to me like Canada just got "People are saying"ed. It's a common tactic most often used by basic trolls who talk out their ass but want their opinion to sound like it actually carries weight. "People are saying..." "I've heard from many Canadians..." "It's been said that I have the biggest crowds..." "Many people are talking about..." "Some people called me a genius..." "Friends of mine that are, like, English professors, they say, ‘It’s the most brilliant thing I’ve ever seen...".
People are saying that my comment was just a joke.
Damn those people!
LOL
The maple leaf state.
In Canada I've had maple trees on the property of almost every home I ever lived in, and I've been a fan of Toronto's NHL team from the time I was a young kid.
Oh my, I talked to some of my rellies in Canada this AM (Winnipeg area) and they were laughing and thought that Trump was nuts. Why in the world would we want to do that, just so we have a better chance of being victim in a mass shooting, or much less medical coverage at a much higher rate, yeah for sure it sounds like a good idea…LMAO
Morning...well if Canada folds Trumpy will have to take 55 other countries as well..
Canada is part of the Commonwealth along with us, the Brits and the Kiwis..and Pakistan..
I can see another wall going up now...🤣
"Oh, the humanity"
So can I.
I thought England was the 51st state.
In any case, I'm sure there are a "yuuuuuge" number of Canadians who want to join the US. Maybe as many as 10 or 11.
I can't open that encrypted image Jack. Please copy and save it to your computer picture library and then copy and paste it here from there.
That help?
Nope, same as before. When I try ot open it this is what I get:
It's the movie promo photo for a movie called "The 51st State" with Samuel L Jackson. (released as "Formula 51" in the USA)
You mean like one of these?
Yes sir. Mine was the one on the right
Okay, thanks.
Comparing the northern border to the southern border or ports of entry is kind of crazy in and of itself.
The Canadians are more likely to stop immigrants from approaching the border, there were 11,000 apprehensions along the NY border on the Canadian side this year. I had family along the border in VT, whenever we went behind the house to collect firewood, CBO Bob was bound to appear to remind us where the border markers were. Every single time, even in the snow or rain...
The USA had a 1000% increase in 2024, reporting a little less than 190,000 encounters including people who turned themselves in at northern ports of entry.
The southern border depending on who you believe, had 3.2 million encounters in 2023 and 2.9million encounter in 2024.
There is no crisis at the northern border other than the political mischief that Trump can cause with his careless words.
With immigration rules tightening in Canada these days I would even have trouble bringing my wife to Canada, and immigrants are not going to try to cross the Atlantic or Pacific in a leaky boat to get there. So it's not likely that the Canadian border can possibly be a problem. Anyway, the Canadians are already building a wall to prevent illegal crossings:
In a year or two it will look like this.
Lol never in my 59 years of living here have I ever heard even one Canadian say they want to become a state
While living in Canada for the first 69 years of my life I as well never heard even one Canadian say they want Canada to become a state of the USA. For one thing, I'd say Bernie Sanders jibe to Trump on that was right on.
I t never cost me anything except for the minor expense of a lab report, and as a senior citizen my prescription drugs only cost an annual $100 registration fee and a small pharmacy dispensing charge for all prescribed drugs. There is no such thing as bankruptcy over health care in Canada. Even when I was in Florida and caught the flu and went to a doctor there I was reimbursed by Canada without a need for travel insurance.
I wonder if the ‘’many Canadian’s’’ Trump is talking about is Ted Cruz?
Could have been Mary Pickford.
She is before my time, Buzz.
Maybe not acting during our rime, but she was alive until 1979.
I was only 2 years old in 79, Buzz….Oh, 1979, sorry.
LOL. IF you were only 2 years old in 1979 that would make me 40 years older than you, old enough to be your grandfather. Actually her last movie was released in 1933, well before both of us were born.
