NAME THE COUNTRY THAT THE CLUE REPRESENTS.  Last time I saw that a couple of members named the same country twice, which is a mistake, because EVERY QUESTION IS FOR A DIFFERENT COUNTRY - THERE ARE NO DUPLICATIONS.

14 tried the last quiz, 11 the one before.  Let's see if we can increase that number cause this will be the last Geography Quiz.  From now on my focus will be on my Movie Games.  Some of you already play the games, and to those who don't, if you can do this quiz you'll do well on the games, and have fun playing.

In this quiz the clues could be a structure, an item, a custom, tradition, person or symbol that the country is known for.

Send your answers in a PN to me, Buzz of the Orient, and I will send you a PN with your score and any corrections.  Because I'm on the other side of the world of most of you, I may be asleep when you PN your answers to me, but I will get to them when I wake up.  If you do not get an answer within 24 hours there may have been a glitch in the NT system, so get back to me again.

PLEASE do not put your answers in a comment here, nor should you post any kind of hint, since it will ruin this game for everyone else, and I will delete it as soon as I see it.

This game will close and the Winners' Circle will be announced Monday evening March 31st at about 11 p.m. New York City time.

Please provide your answers with the same numbers as the questions.

This will be the last Geography Quiz, so please give it a shot. (I was just thinking, maybe Americans might think I mean that literally instead of metaphorically.)  Anyway, it's a simple challenge and a lot of fun, so I expect that by now a lot of NT members might want a taste of something different than the usual daily news.

Please do not post any kind of hint in a comment here, or you will ruin the quiz for everyone else.  Please send your answers to me, numbered the same as the questions, and only one answer for each one.

This quiz will be closed on March 31st at about (and that ISN'T ''aboot'' even though I'm a Canadian) 11 p.m. New York City time.

Have some fun, folks.

This is how they taught us to spell it in grade school: George Estep's Oldest Girl Rode A Pig Home Yesterday.  That is one I remember.  Spelling is hard for me but a rhyme or sentance helped.

Here's one I remember from elementary school-- its a different subject, but the same idea.

Has anyone else learned the meaning of this "reminder":

ROY G. BIV?

I just googled it and found two others with the same meaning (using only the first letters...):

"Richard of York gave battle in vain",

"Run over your granny because it's violent"

Neither of those interpretations are a question, nor do they have anything to do with science, so since it should remind you of something, what does it remind you of?

Actually its not all that important. Its something I learned in "Science" classes in the lower grades (Elementary school)..

ROY G BIV was a "memory helper"-- to help memorize the colours of the spectrum (the rainbow) in order (ROYGBIV cinsists of the first letter in the name of each colour; "R" is for "red", "O" is for Orange:

Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigio, and Violet.

Reallly quite harmless actually.

But one of the things I dislike about the U.S. educational system in general is to much emphasis on rote memorization-- and two little emphasis on "Critical thinking skills"...

R ed, O range, Y ellow, G reen, B lue, I ndigio, and V iolet.

Actually those "vibrations" (colours) occur, in that order, in nature. Rainbows of course. But also in ancient Hindu mysticism, They talk of "Chakras"-- energy vortexes, at various distances up and down the spine-- and the are those same colours in the same order (starting with Red at the base of the spine upward to the top which is Violet):

Psychics see those colored "Chakras".

Actually they often look at two things-- those "Energy Vortexes AKA "Chakras". and also "Auras"-- these are energy fields that go around the entire body, in different colors:

256

Each Chakra, as well as each layer of the Aura are related to the condition of energies in a person. Psychic healers claim they can see the conditions of the various Chakras and Auras and see what conditions of the body have problems, then in some disciplines they claim they can "channel energies" to heal the person.

I am making no claims that any of thise is real, and no claims that these can be usused to diagnose or cure any condition. (I am posting this for amusement purposes only!)

IIRC, in Buddhism (and perhaps some related belief systems) they say that the Aura of the Buddha was visable for 100 miles!

Of course there is no scientific proof of any of this..

Of course there is no scientific proof of any of this..

In some ways it reminds me of Accupuncture. Accupuncturists claim  there are "energy medidians" in the body. Different energies flow along different meridians. And there are points along each meridian which, if  stimulated by inserting a needle on a particular point cans cause healing effects.

IIRC, dissecting cadavers does not reveal any physical structrurs where the meridians are supposed to be! But some people believes Accupuncture works. (Although it seems hard to believe). Indeed, it may be sheer "Poppycock"!

(If I recall, I mentioed that my cousin is a certified Accupuncturist who's now mainly retired. She is somewhat "famous" in the U.S. Accupuncture community. (She's worked with Ted Kaptchuk) in a project IIRC at the NIH). She explained a lot of this to me, and in fact has treated me a few times using Accupuncture).
