Rare early map of America found in Germany
Cartographer Martin Waldseemller, who lived from 1470 to 1522, created the first known map to show the American continent in 1507. Waldseemller was aware of explorer Amerigo Vespuccis recent reports on the unknown continent, and he termed the land America in Vespuccis honor. Waldseemllers is the first map to use the name.
